Single Stage Press vs Arbor Press

If one uses the 'Wilson' type die I can not see what difference any type of arbor press would make in the end result. (other than being maybe more portable).
To me the end result lies totally within that type of die itself. Once the case is in that type die whether to size or seat, how the die is closed(?) I wouldn't think mattered in the end result at all.
Maybe something is happening that I am unaware of.

I went with the 21st century shooting hydro press just to see how consistent seating effort is. And if sorting by consistent seating effort makes a difference. Always experimenting.

I have a harrell combo press i have been using for some time.

Frankly loads sized and seated on my forster co-ax with custom dies are as good as my wilson arbor press loads.

But i am always looking for better

I have never been to the Super Shoot, and I no longer compete. The small amount of hearing I have remaining is important to me, and I intend to preserve it. Between the traveling I did during my working life, and as a single parent raising my son, there wasn't much time for me to travel to shooting competitions. I was limited to Arizona and SoCal ranges. Equipment lists remain available online. Name, cartridge, action, barrel, scope, stocker, gunsmith, bullet, powder, primer, etc. An arbor press is small and portable. They take up very little room in a range box, and don't require much real estate with the limited amount of room in the loading areas at the ranges. Many competitors use threaded dies to seat their bullets. Threaded seating dies have been proven to be just as accurate as chamber type seating dies.
IIRC, you just had a LR comp rifle built by cigarcop, have been buying up Savage .250 brass for your AI , so apparently you still shoot enough to qualify as expert opinion:rolleyes: (at great risk to your hearing acuity). FWIW, don't take equipment lists too seriously.......competitors will change equipment at anytime when the original game plan isn't working, they inadvertently put down wrong info, some are compelled to list a sponsor although they are using someone else's components or equipment, and some just like to deceive :(.

Tell me a bit about the LR comp rifle I "just had built". I'm not aware of it. The 250 Ackley is a hunting rifle, I won't be shooting it often, and when I do, my hearing aid will not be in my ear, and I will be wearing hearing protection. Without the aid, I can't hear range commands. I don't take the equipment lists seriously. The fact is, the equipment lists are posted.

Most shooters I compete with have severe hearing loss, many have hearing aids, most should but many just don't like them- I be one of them. These guys compete safely, even with the hearing issues. If you can hear an air horn signalling "cease fire" there is no excuse not to compete.

My hearing loss goes beyond severe, and I am not willing to destroy the remaining tidbit. I have been completely deaf in my left ear since early childhood, and without my aid in my right ear, I hear nothing. Losing the remaining hearing I have is not an option. Competition isn't so important to me that I will sacrifice the little bit of hearing I have. My doctor has offered a fair and realistic ultimatum. I'm choosing the smart path for myself, you choose yours.

I am sorry to hear about the hearing loss issue. You have my total admiration for the difficult task of raising your son alone. God Bless You for taking that on.

There is no wrong answer here, just preferences. We'll just agree to disagree on the press issue.

If we live long enough, the word "Huh?" will begin to dominate our conversations. I'll be 68 in September, and I am surprised I can still hear so good.

Thank you, Rich:) and I agree. Cigarcop can tell you just how bad my hearing is. Unless he is facing me when he talks or asks me a question, so that I can read his lips, I can hear his voice and everything he says, but can't understand him:(
