Even if they shoot the same, 40-X engraved, versus Remington trued represents a huge price gap and the difference between collectibility or not, years later. These are a great deal regardless.

Unless Remington closes the Custom Shop, I’d be floored to see “40-X” appear on a new item from a different source.

I just bought two of them. And I have two 40x single shots. And these are very close in quality to the custom shop 40xs that I have. I did have my smith "square" them, but he said they were already pretty darn square. These are NOT the same actions you find on Walmart Remington 700s. And for $340 who CARES about collect ability? these are SHOOTERS for the budget minded.

I turned my smith on to them and he has since built maybe a dozen using these. He said he saw no difference in quality between a Stiller and the Buds 700 single shot.

Not a lefty BUT, a lefty actioned rig would be for bench shooting.
Right hand stays on and controls the stock while your free left hand works the bolt and feeds ammo.
And what's the saying? Beware of a man with a single shot cause he probably knows how to use it? Or something along those lines.
Nothing like learning to shoot with a single shot 22. You've only got one shot so you better make it count.

The Federal Government requires that the manufacturer and the model name or number be engraved or stamped on each action produced. So by the letter of the law these are not 40X actions because they are not marked as such.

I am not a lawyer. And the "legal" designation of the action in question is irrelevant to this conversation, which is about the functionality, and Remington 700 actions are not drilled for sights or come in single shot but the EXACT action coming out of the custom shop called a 40x does, but thank you for your input.

Sorry, it's relevant to this conversation. Labeling a commodity one way and selling or alluding to it as another of higher value is illegal, in this case the '40X' being higher quality than the standard actions. I have explained the labeling requirements as I have been directed by the Federal Government during my exchange with them. While you may want to distract from this by saying it's only about functionality, again, you're wrong. By claiming that these actions are '40X', you are misrepresenting the product. No where does Remington claim these are 40X actions.

In short, you cannot call these actions '40X' unless they are marked as such on each action. That's the law. If you choose to view this differently, that's your problem. The Feds differ with you. Guess who's going to win that argument?

Yes they are nice actions but they have not been 'blueprinted' by Remington. The bolts have not been timed by Remington. But they are being produced under tighter manufacturing control which is evidenced by the quality which we do receive. And by comparison to the previous actions most of us have used, these are pretty nice.

The SS Single shots I have bought from MidWest have been marked Remington 700. They are identical in all respects to the
40XBR thats a single shot but only comes in C.Molly. I have 4 of the 40XBRs and I have to tell you they were not true from the factory. I also have one SS/SS 40X action plus one of the 700 SS/SS actions. On a 4473 you have to call them as they are marked, but in reality you can "call them what ever you want"
