Sinclair rests discontinued?

I am entering target shooting, this is actually my first post, and have been doing research on which front rest to purchase. I've come to the conclusion that I would like one of Brownell's Sinclair rests but they all show SOLD OUT. Are they discontinued or are they that popular?

they are that popular, so many good rests out there nowadays to choose from. i love my 21st century hybrid x

I don't know about buying a new one, but they show up here in the classifieds from time to time. I just sold a nice one recently, opting for a lighter-weight joy stick rest. The Sinclair Comp. is a fine choice. There are other high quality knob turning rests you can look into and keep an eye out for as well....J.J. Loh comes to mind, Randolph Machine is another......Best of luck.

Regards
Rick

Watch the classifieds here, lots of good rests come up. A very nice older Seb just sold for not a lot more than a new Sinclair. Farley's can be had for a great deal too. Go too a few matches and see what guys are using. The JJ Loh Rick mentioned is the Rolls Royce of non joy stick rests. Look at them all before you buy.

Why guess give them a call.

A while back I noticed that they were alive and available in Australia, although at three times the price.

I thought I might like to add a joystick top after a while, but if I see a SEB for a bargain I'll certainly spring for it. Thanks for naming alternatives, it takes time to find things like that.

I signed up to be notified when Sinclair’s we’re back in stock at Brownells…that was in January…I got tired of waiting..ordered a Bald Eagle Cast Iron, and then ordered a top for it from DR Greenlaw.
It’s not a Rolls Royce setup, but for $600ish will suit my needs very nicely for competing in local club matches.
My other choice was a Randolph

I'm not sure what discipline that you are shooting - but if it's F-Class, a joystick is the best way to start - otherwise you will be bag squeezing -not so great. Don't discount a Caldwell with a joystick which you could sell off when a SEB or similar comes along. You can even fit a better top or bag to the Caldwell base. I dont shoot F-Open often, but I bought a SEB Mini -X last year - I already had a Joypod - which I will use for the foreseeable future.

I have the Sinclair F-Class skipod that I like very much. Use it on all three of my range rifles . Paired up with my Protektor rear bag, an EXTREMELY stable platform.

So Brownell emailed that a rest came available and I ordered it. It came in. I'm disappointed. It's a fixed base model, the the top is 1-2 degrees out of parallel with the leading face of the base. The tolerances between the the major column and base, and minor column with major column are huge. It's solid once locked in place with the handles but NOTHING is plum, square or true. The level bubble on the windage adjustable units therefore means absolutely nothing. I likely would have been ok in my ignorance if I had not seen how tight the Ransom Rifle Master rest fits together. Wow can you say buyer's remorse. I'd consider having a major column manufactured that will fit better and take the slop out but I'm not prepared to spend another $400 on this thing. If I'm to consider how many thousandths my primer is seated, how can I shoot with this thing?

BTW apparently great time to purchase one of these at Brownell's, I've received 5 emails in the last week saying all but one of the models have been available. I took the first one, should have waited.

Send it back asap. And let them know why! They need to know this junk is not going to cut it.

There is quite a few Sinclair rest at each BR match I attend and myself, I owned one before switching to a SEB. None are junk. They are well made - fit and finish is well above many - and adjustment are precise. Tolerances are tight and there is no problem with it when you have the competition top. Quite a few 250 are shot in score by shooter using one.

To have a new target shooter that never had a rest saying it’s crap….when he haven’t seen anything else…..humm..

The Ransom rifle Master is crude.. casting look like they are just out of the mold-handles are thin- knobs made cheap and this rest is over priced - if you like that..well there is definitely a problem on how quality is perceived.

You sir I'm sorry but you have no idea what you're talking about with the Ransom rest. I owned one for many years and used two other ones. They're tolerances are tight their handles are more than big enough because of the tight tolerances you do not need to crank on them to tighten them up as you do with the others. Hell they make aftermarket wrenches for the Sinclair Comp..It's the same thing when you snap a barrel in place it's tight, Ransom rest is the same way. The size of their major and minor column adjustments are as big or bigger than everyone else out there. Some of the features they have are second to none for the convenience to the user. They are expensive but once you use one you understand why they're expensive they are extremely nice. I've had both style Sinclair's, original bald eagles, current grizzly bald eagles, Ransom, Seb Neo, Seb Max, JLK, Caldwell and parts of DR Greenlaw. I have a pretty good idea what I'm talking about.
