Sinclair/L.E. Wilson Micro adjust bullet seater die

Reviving this 'almost zombie' thread to ask if any of you gents have ever completely removed the micrometer top to expose the innards. Wondering about care and maintenance type stuff and rust prevention...Thanks!

If you remove the top, be prepared for ball bearings to drop out of the die body. There are 5 holes around the diameter of the die body that house springs and ball bearings. The ball bearings ride up against the detents in the micrometer top to provide the positive clicks you feel. If you pull it apart, do it inside a ziplock bag so you don't lose the bearings and/or springs. Ask me how I know.

I use wilson for all my accuracy loads. You don't really need an arbor press and I wouldn't recommend a mallet. You can get a kit that rcbs sells that will let you use your regular press. Or if you're neck tension is light enough you can just use your hand then you can really feel if you're getting consistent tension.

I’ve had stuff like this before happen, the ziplock bag is a great tip. Also when time to put it all back together, a small dot of heavy grease will hold the balls in place to reassemble.

Haha...great feedback guys. That's what I was afraid of...balls and springs flying to infinity and beyond, Thanks!

Mine was getting a little wonky and felt like it needed some lube in there, so I went for it. It can be done, but caution must be exercised. When I do it again, I'll back the micrometer top off until I can just barely...and I do mean barely...see the leading edge of the bearing holes and stop. At that point, I'll put a very light touch of oil on each one then screw it back together.

If someone else has a better method, I'm all ears.

I use the Sinclair/Wilson Bullet Seater Die and I am very happy with it. It is very repeatable, with .0005" firm clicks. Whenever I change bullet style I can go to the previously recorded settings for that bullet and be right on. I have one of these for each of the 3 main calibers I load for. They are expensive but Sinclair often has them on sale. Would I pay the full price to have one, yes I would.
