Reviving this 'almost zombie' thread to ask if any of you gents have ever completely removed the micrometer top to expose the innards. Wondering about care and maintenance type stuff and rust prevention...Thanks!
If you remove the top, be prepared for ball bearings to drop out of the die body. There are 5 holes around the diameter of the die body that house springs and ball bearings. The ball bearings ride up against the detents in the micrometer top to provide the positive clicks you feel. If you pull it apart, do it inside a ziplock bag so you don't lose the bearings and/or springs. Ask me how I know.
