Sinclair Gen I Expander Body Die

Here's the description of the II's:

Our Generation II Expander Dies completely capture the mandrel within the die so the mandrel cannot pull out. An O-ring in the die cap allows the mandrel to float a bit and find its own center within the case neck. All three Generation II dies are precision machined from stainless steel and the 7/8 inch - 14 dies include the Sinclair Stainless Steel Split Lock Ring. Large caliber expander dies accept only 35 to 50 caliber mandrels. All single ended Sinclair mandrels will fit the Generation II Expander Die.

The I's were not S/S, and the early expanders were dual calibers, ie. 22 and 6, 7 and 30, although they are universal with the singles. There was only a single set screw to tighten them down, and they could/did pull out occasionally, and they didn't float. Never was a deal breaker though.

I've got the Gen II and it works like a champ. Mandrels in 22, 6mm, 30, 270 and 7mm. One pass on you're done. Couldn"t be any easier.

And for a "clarification", it's not a body die. It's a "expander" die used with different size expander mandrels for expanding the case neck "only".
Just so we're all on the same page. ;)
No matter, they still work slick. ;D

What is the difference.. I will tell you the difference! I have the Gen I and wish that I had the Gen II..

I've got the Gen 1 also what a pain if you don't get that set screw real-real-real tight. I got so tired of it I got the K&M die/expander but I got the Gen II for 35cal and it's a good set up.

I also picked up the K&M expander. I'll stick with the Sinclair Gen II thank you. ;)

Back when I got what called the Gen I Sinclair made two styles expander die one had a flat bottom other round and the mandrels I got were like alf mention dual calibers. Later on they started to offer single caliber mandrels and thats when I got the second expander die. Keeping the set screw tight was always the weak link. K&M and Hart made expanders for their turners I also have some Hart expanders.

I agree the Sinclair Gen II is a great expander die I like the one I have in 35 cal and had they offered something like that when I was buying expanders/expander dies I wouldn't be posting this but they didn't. I've never had a problem with K&M or Hart expanders or the Sinclair other than keeping the expander in the die.

I'm not going to buy the smaller expander die Gen II that Sinclair offers as what I have now works for me.

+1, Just bought one along with four mandrels in the different calibers I load for. Talk about smooth and giving even neck tension to your casings...and like NorCal Mikie says, "couldn't be easier." I particularly noticed how smoothly the bullets load, especially when using a Wilson Seater Die. I like using the mandrels far better than that raspy expander ball inside conventional dies. Neat invention!

And I was wondering, if the mandrels were "polished" to a high gloss, how much easier would they slide in and out of the case necks?
Anything beats an "expander ball". ;)

Many loaders do polish their mandrels as habit when they take them new out of the box. Someone had an article on how to do it with a Dremel Tool and not Mess up the dimensions. It was very helpful as using the proper method was easy and flawless...might try some searched...
