Sinclair front rest?

Was wondering it anyone has or has used the heavy 30 lb Sinclair rest with the metal plate on the bottom and what their impressions were of it. They have them on sale right now for $499 (non windage) and was thinking about purchasing one.

I just purchased a JJ industries rest (http://www.jj-industries.com/). The Sinclair competition was definitely in my short list. A friend of mine has this rest and it's definitely a well built piece of machinery.

The biggest reason to get the JJ rest aside from craftsmanship is the adjustment screws. They're silky smooth on the JJ rest and a little on the course side on the Sinclair.

The procedure for purchasing was similar to other custom manufactures, cash only. I mailed a check and about 8 days later I had the rest. I also bought a Home Depot stackable tool box to wheel it around (these things aren't light).

Total with shipping for the JJ rest was $913. The Sinclair competition BR windage is $529 + $74.99 edgewood front With shipping that's around $630. Buy once, cry once.

If you do order the JJ rest I would ask him to fill the front bag firm. He tends to fill them a little on the soft side.

I have the Sinclair rest your looking at. Have had no problem with it. I thought it was good value for the money at $500. Everything worked like it should and the controls were smooth to me. I would buy it again

I have the Sinclair windage rest, no problems. They have them on sale for $530; I think it is worth spending the extra $30 for it. JMO

My question would be, what is your purpose? That Sinclair rest IMHO is a very good rest, especially at that price AND having the metal plate. But if you are looking at competing, the JJ Rest is the way to go, but then open your wallet. Dan Greenlaw has built me and some of my friends, some very nice rests and for the money, they're hard to beat and work well. But they are not like a JJ.....But then you don't pay that price either. Probably doesn't help you much but consider the quality curve and what you need for your purpose(s). Good luck in making your choices and have fun no matter which way you decide to go.

Then either the Sinclair or Greenlaw rest would be fine for your purposes. Sounds like you already made up your mind and that makes life easier for you. Enjoy it!
