Sinclair Competition Rest Primary Rise Stability Fix...

I know others had trouble stabilizing the primary rise column on a Sinclair Competition rest while the column is fully extended. I made a thumb screw out of aluminum to thread into the unused ambidextrous hole of the windage base. This provides pressure on the column in a different direction and makes it rock solid. Wish I did this awhile ago!

Anyone can do the same with a 3/8-16 bolt and pad the tip with something soft to keep from maring the column.

Slick repair! I have a Sinclair windage top that rocks and I took it off my hart rest and put a fixed one on. It was a disappointment . I expected it to be better but it wasn't.

I didn't care much for the factory top that came with the Competition rest, especially the really fine threaded post. I know what you mean about expecting better!

How long you make the 3/8 -16 Knurl bolt ?

The entire length of the thumb screw is about 1.575" and about .600" of threads. I just free machined it to where it looked like it would work...no particular dimensions in mind.

That's a great idea Chuck. Thanks for sharing!

Yes, great ideal also looks great. Chuck if you decide on making a couple extras like the chargemaster bushings you made, Iam down for one.

I got a few PM's about making some. I will work on making a few next week and if interested, PM me so I can get an idea on how many to make.

I was able to get a few extra thumbscrews made. I replied to all PM's and if I missed you, please send another. They are ready to ship.

Thanks.

I find the knob is way too small to get enough leverage to tighten it sufficiently to have any effect. Needs a bigger knob.

The workmanship is also pretty rough and crude. Count me as disappointed in this.

You are not using it properly. Its not made to torque down! Set the primary column height, set the thumbscrew and then tighten the main handle. The simple idea is to take up the couple thousands of loose tolerance difference between the primary and windage base.

These are raw machined state...there will be tooling marks! Its just a thumbscrew, not a hood ornament! There is no way shape or form these are poorly made! Simply machined and single point threaded. Is it the raw machined state that bothers you and what you describe a crude? If so, i can bead blast one and send it to you at NO charge. This will provide you with a nice smooth satin finish.

Also, You send it back and i will gladly refund your money! I made these in favor for other shooters. Had no plans of making them until I got a ton of PM's asking to make them.

I like how you come on here and trash talk before speaking to me directly! I am not here to rip anyone off, nor deserve to be bashed in any way shape of form, especially if you FAILED to contact me with your issues! This kind of stuff happens often and NOT welcomed here.

Would you really expect anything different, from someone who believes that a man, (Mark Twain) who died 5 decades before the internet existed, could possibly say "don't believe everything you read on the internet"?

That's a pretty slick little gadget 8)

I'd explain it to you, but I'm sure it would be an exercise in futility.

I got one of these, and I'll say this they work as intended. I installed it in my sinclair rest and a couple weekends ago I attended a match that was on same format as the IBS 600 yard matches except it was at 525 yards. I did not see any flex in my post as I had before using this screw. I also won 3 of the 4 places possible that day and I also had smallest group of the day and closest to the X
Can I say for sure this screw helped? No but I can say it didn't hurt.

I'm a happy customer and thanks.
