Signature and ID for Fedex Shipments?

I have yet to have to sign or show ID, if I am home when they deliver. If I am not at home, they just leave the parcel on the front porch/upper deck.

I work third shift ( hunting right now ) so I normally hibernate between around 830 am till 330pm.
every once in a while I’ll get a new or different driver show up and beat on my door until get there.
best thing I found so far is the go the door and acknowledge them by saying hold on let me get some clothes on. It’s their choice as to whether or not they are looking thru the glass!!!

Have you guys noticed that as well with shooting related deliveries? Or FEDEX has started asking for signatures and ID scans for all deliveries.

The delivery guy said we do that on all deliveries. I did not believe him.

The phrase for that sentiment is, of course: "The Hell you say!!!"

Double-checking that a person's actually the recipient is one thing. Which ought to take just a glance at a state-issued photo ID. See my photo, confirm it matches the delivery address, and it ought to be good to go. That's plenty of confirmation. I can see any delivery driver wanting to validate, particularly if, say, I catch him/her out at the mailbox and I wasn't actually witnessed coming from the house in question.

But, no way in Hades would I agree that a digital scanning of my ID (along with my signature and birthdate) is something any delivery person needs to be doing. Too much opportunity for criminal abuse of such data, frankly. The only thing such a thing would do, beyond visual confirmation, is to make that data fully available digitally for whomever (assuming it would get slurped onto some server for future misuse by people).

The system doesn't care who it is, they just need an ID to scan. They scanned my wife's ID.

I agree, but if I refuse the ID scan he will take delivery back.

I will refuse ID scan next time and see what happens.

The need: confirmation the delivery's going to the correct destination (or person).

The want (not need): digitization of the DL (which includes DOB and signature, above and beyond simple photo and address). Data nobody needs, outside of knowing the State of residence has "blessed" the person as valid and the ID as matching that person.

Their primary competitor, UPS, doesn't physically scan the ID. They just knock on the door, get a "signature" (no matter how ratty and illegible), then hand over the package to that person. Their distant third competitor (USPS) also does similarly. (Have had signature-required packages recently from both.)

The problem's a bit like the clerk at the nearby liquor store requiring a digiscan of an ID prior to selling a bottle of spirits. No, they merely need to validate the person's of legal age.

Just spoke to Brownell.

The signature requirement has been around for FLL and for HAZMAT deliveries. FEDEX just started the ID requirement to make sure the person accepting the order is of age. However, I can refuse the scanning and just have them verify the age by looking at the ID.
Exactly , you can tell them to pound sand... You can show them your I'd but technically they don't even need to hold it.... People just do whatever their asked anymore.... Give my your phone number etc , I flat tell them you don't need my email or phone number for any reason.... That ends that right there , instead of asking why just say NO....

UPS delivered primers yesterday, left on my porch, and drove off. Same deal with FedEx on a powder order about 6mos ago, left on the porch, and drove off.

It's entirely likely this "new" signature requirement may depend upon where one lives.

Got a new phone yesterday delivered by Fedex and had to sign for it but no license scan, I've gotten the notices that I have to sign for stuff so I would in my office in the basement and sure can hear a doorbell so I always hang a sign on the door "please call me, I'm working in the basement" with my number on it and it works!

Got some handguns in yesterday, Anything that has to have a signature they will have to scan the back of your drivers lic. Don't know if it is fed ex or who, but it is bullshit
Did this just start? Most of the time for firearm deliveries they sign for me as I know most of the drivers but they have never asked for my DL. Just curious if they just started this for FFLs

The last signature-required package I had delivered was signed for by the UPS driver (I assume - I live alone), and left on my front porch. The image of the signature was nothing that I have ever seen before in my life, and misspelled my first name (not that "John" is all that hard to spell...)

Fed Ex delivered “Haz Mat” last Friday from Brownells and driver said he had to scan my drivers license to prove delivery was to an over 18 year old. He said they just started that last week.
Well FedEx left a door tag today on my front door for my Brownells hazmat package. I guess he has to scan your license every time he delivers with hazmat packages.

Fed-Ex stopped by with Haz Mat today.
Driver didn't need to see my DL. just asked for date of birth and a signature.
He said it's up to each driver on how they handle it.
They can't del. without someone home.
UPS left a Haz Mat today also. Just left at door. Didn't know if I was home or not.

It's required to confirm it's going to the right person/destination, and with certain items to confirm it's going to a person over the age of 18yrs.

The scanning is merely the easy way out, for them. The scanning part doesn't aid confirmation. At best, it only salves their conscience by checking the last box in their system. But if the drivers are honest, if they get a signature, if they confirm it's to the right person, if they confirm that persons "of an age" ... A mindless scan doesn't check those things. An attentive driver can. A scan just allows the future ability to misuse such details as exist on a DL. Not necessary to record it, despite them apparently "requiring" drivers to make such scans.

I'd contact FedEx directly.
