Sightron ?

I am considering buying a Sightron S III 20x-42mm (straight power) for hunting ground-hogs here in Pa. But, I am concerned about the modified mill-dot reticle being too thick and covering up my point of aim at long range (800-1000 yards) Does anyone have any experience with this reticle for shooting earth-pigs ?

Look at the specs on Sightrons webb site for the scope you are considering. You will find the Mil-Dot to be large. It is designed for man size,big game size targets, not small varmints. Larry in western Ky.

I will say I like the sightron 36x better than all the Weaver 36xs (6) that I have. Clearer and a more positive click on the adjustments. Sorry about the mill dot? no answer for that.....

You are right Larry. This reticle wouldn't be good for 800+ yard shots on Pa earth-pigs. I called Sightron to see if they could change the reticle, and also called Bill Ackerman. Neither will swap out reticles. I would like to find a FIXED power, (20-24) with a 30mm tube, and at least 75 MOA in elevation travel, and either an ultra fine crosshair, or .125 target dot reticle. Any suggestions ?

Well.. I just recieved a Sightron 6-24X50 LR D and I have to say up to this point.. I am very very pleased with it.. will know more when the rain goes away.
