Sightron VS Bushnell 6500 VS whatever

I want to buy a new scope for 100-1000 yard shooting.

Here are my experiences:

Nightforce- I have a BR 12-42. This is a very good scope (obviously), but they are very expensive.

B & L 4000 Elite- I have one left from my old days of groundhog hunting (I sold the other two years ago sadly). Made in Japan. This is the best glass I have ever seen personally. Better than any modern production. None of the new coatings compare to the old B & L scopes... The color clarity is just way better. Sadly, my issue with my 4000 is that is runs out of elevation at long range. Where as the Nightforce has tons of elevation!!!

Bushnell 4200 Elite- Solid scope by but suffers from limited elevation and the glass is OK but not great. Poor color clarity compared to its older siblings.

What I want is a $700-$800 scope that has lots of elevation and good glass. What say you?

PS: I don't buy Chinese made anything.

Vortex viper series is made in the Philippines. Nice glass
maybe out of your designated budget for the higher power models.
Sightron 8-32 can be had for around 800 I think. Made in Japan. Nice as well

I think the Vipers have Japanese glass in them but are assembled in the Phillipeans.

The Razor series has Japanese glass for sure. They are very nice optics. I put a Viper PST on an AR for a guy here a couple weeks ago. Very nice glass, and looking at the stats they have a lot of elevation adjustment.

I have a passel of the higher power Sightrons and Leupolds. I think the Leupolds have better contrast but they have all served me well with zero issues. Did own a Vortex red dot, mounted it on a sluggun. It was a POS and turned me off Vortex for good. As an aside, I stopped buying Nikon when they went the china route.

Holy crap... That thing looks pretty nice...

That's not a bad choice, Bradley.

And, if FFP floats your boat, that's the best option (I should say ONLY option) for your price range, although it's closer to $900. The glass is comparable to the Sightron SIII's in my opinion. (not trying to start a battle here with that statement... just my observation in using both scopes)

How does Sightron and Vortex glass compare to Nightforce?

Leupold 8.5-25 has great glass, some thing like 94 minutes of adjustment and made in USA. Throw a booster on it if you need a little more magnification.

My opinion... about the same, although I have limited experience with the Vortex (I shot with one once at 1k yds). I own an SIII 8-32x56, and a NF NXS 8-32x56. Side-by-side I think they're damn close to the same... I felt the same with the Vortex when I used it that one time.

I've heard some (minimal) complaints about the reticle being a little big (thick) on the FFP Vortex, but I didn't think it was too bad. (Didn't have a problem centering it up on 4" clay bird at 1K)

For what it's worth... I was just in the same boat as you... I had an SIII 8-32 with a FCH on my varmint gun. I wanted an MOA reticle so I could use *accurate* hold-offs for windage, and maybe even elevation. Anyway, after the long process of digging around on the internet (a painful process I might add), I went with an SIII 8-32 with the MOA2 reticle. My 2nd choice, which I almost bought, was the Vortex PST. I think I'd be happy either way, and I'd bet you would be too.

Hopefully someone will chime in, who has more experience with the Vortex.
