How much better is the bushnell 6500 than the 4200

I have a bushnell elite 4200 4-16x40 and I like it alot. Anybody have both the 4200 and 6500. How much better is the 6500???

I have several of both of them...

personally i dont really think that the 6500 is any better. I love the 6500, but in my personal opinion the eye relief is slightly more sensitive than the 4200. The advantage imo on the 6500 is the 6.5 multiplier on magnification range. if you need that then get it otherwise a 4200 is every bit as good.

I would have to agree with nra.....I have both the 6500 and the 4200. In my opinion, the 4200 is a clearer scope and the eye relief is better. I have noticed that at higher magnification, the 6500 is not as clear....kinda hazy.

Both of my 6500's are as clear as my 4200. I like that they are 30mm instead of 1". But, I believe you can get the 6-24x50 4200 with a 30mm tube. I like the 6500's very much! I use them in Mid-Range F-Class. My 4200 I use in 100 yard 22RF F-Class matches we have here in Mississippi.

I briefly owned a 2.5-16 6500 and have used a 4.5-30 6500 fairly extensively and I could not decide which I hated more. I guess if I had to pick it would be the 4.5-30 due to the outrageously long eye relief over 15x or so, ridiculously tiny eye box at any power and glass bad enough to be useless above about 20x. It was honestly about the worst scope I have ever used, and I've used a lot of them. The 2.5-16 suffered from the same problems, just to a slightly lesser degree. I would never buy another one and would take anything from the 4200 series over a 6500 in a heartbeat.

I agree with the very touchy eye relief. especially at 14 power or higher with my 4200 4-16x40. For $450 it is a awesome scope! I don't think i will be buying a 6500 now that i heard all the replies. Im still on the look for a high quality scope. The nightforce nxs 8-22x50 that Im looking at is $1800. The mark 4 leupold 8.5-25x50 that Im looking at is $1400 and the vx3 8.5-25x50 Im looking at is $1000. Is the mark 4 any better than the vx3???

I have a 4.5-30 and it is a great scope so far. Only complaint I have is that it doesn't have enough elevation in one revolution. The high speed Nightforce is much better in this department.

My old jap 4000 is the best glass I have ever looked through. Better than the 4200. Maybe better than my Nightforce...
