Sightron S3 thoughts

Looking for a couple scopes for my LG and HG. I shoot 600 and 1000 benchrest and need to know thoughts on the Sightron s3 10-50 scopes? Also the 1 with zero stop has 1/4” turret adjustments, the 1 without zero stop has 1/8” clicks…..been shooting nightforce and vortex with 1/8” clicks,,,,is difference a critical factor? Haven’t made up my mind yet but I need to keep in the 14-1500 range budget wise,,,,

I am happy with both my Sightron S3’s…and would buy again. Great customer service if you ever needed it.

Just an observation, if in good condition the S3’s seem to sell pretty quickly on the secondary market (specifically on accurate shooter website in the Market Place). I would guess you could recoup 65-75% of your $$$ if you ever decided to Upgrade to the Nightforce (for the most part I would not consider a Vortex and upgrade…nothing against Vortex).

I use a Sightron s3 10-50 1/8 “ clicks for 600 yd matches. Good scope but difficult to see 6 mm bullet holes in the blue.

I use S3 with 1/8” clicks, I love it. Don’t see a need to upgrade myself. I can see bullet holes when conditions allow. What else can you ask for. Hard to beat for the money. I do think 1/8” clicks is the way to go for long range benchrest. I’m sure nightforce competition scopes are a tad better but costs a good bit more. I think s3 is as good or better than the NF benchrest models I’ve looked through but that’s just my opinion. Others may disagree.

Thanks appreciate the feedback

On a cold day last month I was able to see 6.5mm holes at 600 yards with my Vortex GE. I have never been able to do that with my Sightron 10X50's but they do track well and handle our summer mirage as well as the GE's.

I have quite a few Sightrons - SIIIs , S-Tacs and SVs - and I'm very happy with them. Most importantly, they have all tracked without fail and some have been in regular use for 10 years or so. A+ for reliability and durability. The glass is pretty decent, too. The only criticism I can muster is reticle choice, although I find the MOA-2 and MOA-H reticles perfectly serviceable for my purposes. Benchrest will require the FCH reticle, I suppose.

I don't think you can go wrong with a 10-50 SIII. As someone else mentioned, if you don't like it, you won't have a problem selling it.

I've been using a SIII 8-32 for long range F/open for the past several years. Scope is the last thing I'm considering upgrading. Excellent glass, same great warranty (that you rarely need to use), reliable turrets. I use the LRTD reticle with 1/8moa dot because I tend to dial wind more than hold. My new LR gun is getting a SIII 10-50 with 1/8moa clicks, too.

My S3 fixed BR scope is a different story. It is also my last one. New out of the box, the crosshairs were tilted left to about 11 oclock. Decided to use it before calling CS to shoot some loads I was working on and the crosshairs tilted to 10 oclock. CS said send it in which i did. Talked to CS a few days later and was told they fixed the issue and was shipping it out that day, awesome. Got it back and opened it and the crosshairs were again at 11 oclock. Called CS again and was told that the crosshairs were in spec and to use a plumb line to set the crosshairs plumb. A debate ensued over the turret then being tilted to the right. Eventually I was told to return it and I agreed and told them I wanted another scope. Well, they did send me another scope and told me they had to go thru a number of scopes before they found one with the turret and crosshair in agreement. The crosshairs are off by the width of the crosshair but I'll try it anyway. It zeroed fine so we will see. The Sightron salesman brought the original scope to a shoot for me from the factory (we are both in NC) and shot the matches that day. Several of us couldn't help but notice he was shooting a Nightforce Competition scope. Like I said, my last Sightron. YMMV

I can see bullet holess at 400 most of the time w my SIII and Vortech. About the same as nightforce.
