Sightron S-Tac Deal

I have one of those, I haven’t shot it yet but the optics look very good at the original price point, even better at the sale price. BUT a word to the wise, the reticle is pretty light, lighter than I would want on a big game hunting rifle. It sure would make an awesome varmint scope though.

John,
Would this scope be a good fit, reticle wise, on a .22 RF? Considering one for my Tikka T1X. Thanks for any insight.

I have several of the 4-20 MOA-2 on the rimfire rifles I use on prairie dogs. Love them. The are clear even on 20X. The only negative I see is you have to remove the turret cover to adjust the turrets. But since I usually hold over it isn't an issue for me.

They have steadily increased in price since I have been using them. I used to be able to buy them occasionally from Opticsplanet for the high $300's. Earlier this year I was looking to add 2 and searched and they were selling for around $500. Saw them listed on Amazon by Camerland for $300 and bought 2.

It is a nice reticle, what it would not be great for would be wooded areas in low light, my fear would be that the reticle would be easy to loose because it is pretty fine. Also note that for whatever reason moa 3 is slightly finer than a moa2

Thanks for the reply John. May need to see one in person first.

The center dot and hash mark subtensions are the same at 100 yards for both the moa2 and moa3. Center dot .25 inches, hash mark spacing 2". I can't use my moa2 4-20 for hunting coyote early morning or sunset as the reticle is hard to see. It is great for load development and prairie dogs. The duplex reticle works great for hunting(I have 2 duplex, 3 moa2) they all track and hold perfectly. I dial most shots over 250 yards.

Looking forward to your report, as I am still on the fence! Thanks.

Mine arrived yesterday. Optics are much better than I expected. Turrets feel good, it’s a bit heavier (1.88 lbs) than I would have guessed too but I like that. The reticle is fine, I really like it, especially for small targets. I like it enough to tell you that if you order one and don’t like it I’ll take it off your hands.

Feel free to PM me Paul.

Paul, the S-TACs are an outstanding value. I've had several 4-20x S-TACs on varmint and predator rifles for a few years and they have all been as reliable as a stone fence. They track great, optical quality is pretty darned good and the build quality punches well above its weight.

I have them in both the MOA-2 reticle and the duplex. I prefer the MOA-2.

Thanks JLT, I do appreciate hearing from an actual owner. Sightron seems to be rock solid with their offerings and I will have one shortly. No doubt.

Thanks, Paul
