Sightron III 6-24x50 vs Zeiss 6.5-20x50

Getting ready to buy one of these scopes to put on my .338/.300 for LR shooting and hunting. Read on the forum how the Zeiss was rated the Best 1" Scope Reviewed and I've also read the writeup on the new Sightron 8-32x56 vs the Nightforce. Don't need that much magnification and I'm assuming the 6-24x50 is of the same quality. So which one would you all choose. Wish they would of included the SS6-24x50 in the shootout. I'd welcome all input from those in the know. Hurry, I've got money burning a hole in my pocket!

slymule: Everyone has an opinion about 'scopes, so here's mine. Bought a new Zeiss 6.5-20x Conquest", The Optic Zone/ best price). Am very impressed. Optics seem just a little better than a Leupold in the same price range. Standard Z-Plex reticle meets my needs. Target knobs are the best I've yet to see/use. Would not hesitate to buy another.

fdshuster, I appreciate your input regarding your Zeiss scope. I've been a Leupold and Nikon fan for years and I too agree that the Zeiss has VERY clear optics. I consider the Zeiss as being clearer than my Leupolds and Nikons that I have. My problem is there's not a sporting goods store within 250 miles of my hometown that carrys the Sightron scope I'm trying to compare with the Zeiss which I have been able to look through. Looks like I'm going to have to rely on the opinions of others who have been able to compare the two side by side. Again, thanks for your input.

I've been considering one of these also, it's going to go on a 338/300 even. The Zeiss has great glass but the Sightron has over twice the available adjustment. I'm waiting for the review on the 6-24 but after reading about the 8-32 I will probably go ahead and get one. I've got a couple lower end Sightrons that I'm happy with so hopefully it will work out well. CameralandNY still has some Zeiss scopes for a great price I believe if you decide to go that way.

KRP,I too was aware of the few Zeiss scopes that CameralandNY has left over. Just found out that Graf's has the cheapest price on the Sightron's if you have a dealers account or a buddy that maybe has one as I do. Graf's is currently out of stock and are saying they will have more in within the next two weeks.

Can anybody answer why the Sightron site lists different moa adjustments for elevation for the different reticle choices on the same scope - haven't been able to figure that one out yet??? Is that possible or is it a misprint?

Dot and MilDot reticles are both listed at 100MOA on the Sightron sight, maybe you clicked on the wrong scope? I haven't seen these scopes listed at Graf's yet.

KRP, you're right, just double checked and they both say 100moa, not sure which scope I pulled up by accident. Guess that solves that mystery. Oh, I sent you a PM and gave you the numbers you were requesting.

slymule: I agree about the somewhat limited range of adjustment on the Zeiss, windage is a little less than elevation. I sight-in my scopes, keeping the windage & elevation very close to center by using the off-set Burris Signature Zee rings, so have yet to run out of adjustment. If there is a downside to the Zeiss, that may be it, especially if more elevation is req'd. for really long-distance.

I dont know what Grafs price on these scopes are, but mine is 715.00del for dot reticle, and $725.00del on the Mil-dot. Larry

The new 6-24 Sightron is pretty much equal to the 8-32... Glass in the 6-24 is brighter, better color, and a touch more resolution than an 8.5-25 LRT Leupold I tested it against.

I do not have the Zeiss to test..

The 6-24 sightron has an honest 100MOA available...

I will be buying myself one of each at some point...

Just received a SIII 6-24x50 today - after using the 8-32x56 at 600 & 1000 over the past month, I had no qualms about going with another of Sightron's SIII series scopes. Won't have the rifle this scope's intended for together for another 3-4 weeks, but am already impressed with the optical quality of this scope. I may pull the old SWFA SS16x off one of my 6x47s just to see how well it tracks - I have at least a couple of weeks before the Shehane MBR Tracker gets here for the new rifle.

I have 2 of the new sightron S3,s in 8-32x56 and would not trade them for anything.I have burris black diamond and xtr, Nikon monarchs, Bushnell elites 4200 and Leupold vx3 in 6-20x and 8-25x. i no longer own the 2 Leupold's. The sightrons have better glass than the mentioned scopes above.As for tracking the other scopes track well, but the lash,side focus and canted reticles is why i,ll never own another Leupold plus Leupold's glass is not that good for what you pay, they are way over priced 'period'. Now tracking with the sightron i never had a scope that tracked as great as my sightrons ever!!!! There is not a scope on the market that is better than the sightron for the money, best quality glass, internals etc on the planet for the money. There is no better in my opinion if so i never found it yet.Zeiss conquest is a super fine scope but the glass is better in the S3'S for sure.

Guys, I really appreciate all your input in responding to my questions. I've never in the past bought a scope without being able to check it out first. I feel compelled to say with all the positive comments regarding the Sightron scope, it's left no doubt in my mind that I'll be completely satisfied with this next purchase. Though it's not really a fair comparison because of the smaller objective, I've got an Elite 6500 2.5-16x42. Though I've had no issues nor complaints with the 6500, I do feel the SIIIs are optically superior. Haven't had the opportunity to use the 6-24x50 to try to resolve bullet holes on target yet, but the image & color redention of the SIII are better than the 6500's in my subjective opinion. Can't say anything about tracking accuracy or repeatability of the 6-24 yet, as I haven't shot with it as of yet.

The SIII 6-24x50 has a claimed 100,one hundred) MOA of total internal elevation adjustment. That's a lot more than the Bushnell 6500. Which is why I have a brand new SIII 6-24x50 with mildot reticle, courtesy of Larry Scott,thanks for the good price and service, Larry!) sitting on my desk here at work.

Haven't even opened it yet, so lunchtime can't get here quick enough.

My plan is to do a side-by-side review of it, a Leupold LR/T M1 6.5-20x50, a Pentax,Burris) LS30 6-24x50, and a Nightforce NXS 5.5-22x50 -- all of which I have at home. I'll post the info after the comparison.
