Sightron 8-32x56

I am interested in obtaining information and experience on the Sightron Slll
8-32x56 LR TD TDT. I have used the Sll 6-24x44 and have been completely satisfied with it and am considering a move up.
How does it compare in quality and optics with the Leupold VX-3 long range 8-25x50 and the NF NXS 8-32x56?
Thanks
Bill

I have two Sightron s3 8x32x56 with the moa 2 reticle. We shoot F class mid range and long range so are continually moving from 100 zero to 1000 and in between, they have worked flawless for us. The only Leupold i have experience with is the 6.5x20 extended focus and to my eyes the Sightron is clearer and sharper. hope this helps.

Mate i think you need to rethink your question it should be how does the Leupold VX3 compare.

I looked at NF and Sightron SIII when upgrading my Leupold. Leupold was a Vari X III, good scope I just needed more magnification. Looking at target boards at 500 yards I couldn't see any visible differences between the NF and Sightron. Both were very clear with great contrast, very sharp/crisp. Both were easy to adjust with positive feel to turrets and easy/quick focus. I went with the Sightron SIII 8-32x56 TD, couldn't see anything about NF that made me want to spend the extra $ for it.

I've got three SIII 8-32x56 Sightron scopes, two target dots, and one mil dot. All three are great but I am considering swapping one out for a 10-50x60 SIII.

I have two 10x50x60 Sightrons. I had two NF BR 12x42x56s, bought the first Sightron. After trying the Sightron, I sold one of the Nightforces and bought another Sighton. I'm hanging on to one of the NFs just in case the Sightron is not durable, but all signs right now are that I won't be buying any more NFs. I think NF has gotten a little arrogant, and the delivery dates they quote customers are fluid and can be changed at any time they feel like it. I'm not waiting 18 weeks for anyone to manufacture a scope just to find out that they extend the date longer. Too many other good scopes out there.

I bought a Sightron 8-32x56 LR TD TDT for my new 1-8 LR 6BR (still waiting for it to be rebarreled). All I can say is that is one teeny weeny dot. I'll know more when I get it on the gun but for now I've got my doubts about it's usefulness for anything other than paper punching.

yes it is a little dot, i switched to their moa 2 dot and love it. I dont lose it like i did the smaller one.

how does the moa 2 dot look at 300 yds i shoot f class at 300 and want a sightron but not sure about which recticle to get.

We also shoot F class, the dot will fit inside the x ring on the 300 target. I have shot the 1/8 and the 1/4 dot and for us the moa 2 is better.

MOA 2 and Long Range Dot both have .25 dot (measured as MOA) at full magnification and have 1/4 MOA adjustments. The Long Range Target Dot has a .125 dot at full magnification and they offer a version with 1/4 and 1/8 MOA adjustments.

The .25 dot is going to cover up half (+) of the X ring on F class target. The 300 target X ring is actually 1.42". A penny (.750 inches) is a pretty good representation of .25 dot at 300.

I went with the Long Range Dot. Wish it didn't cover quite as much area but was worried about being able to clearly see the smaller one. I've used it at 300, 500 and 600 and been happy with it. If you do go to lower magnification the dot size increases, up to .8 at lowest magnification.

I own several SIII's both in 8x32 and 10x50 and have 1/8", 1/4" dots & fine x-hair reticles. The 1/8 dot is a great assest for shooting VFS as the 1/4" does not allow me to see the small x in the center of the 10 ring at 200yds it completely covers it. But the 1/8 dot is to small for hunting and gets lost in low light as do the fine x-hairs. There's no such thing as one scope that will cover all your needs. I do find that with my 1/4" dot scopes it's quicker to sight in on prairie dogs and there's less eye strain at the end of a long shooting day. I feel that the 1/4" is just too large for precision paper punching.

Just to clarify, the moa2 reticle with .25 dot is only .25 at 24x, this is also where the hash marks equal 2 moa. At 32x or anything above 24x the dot is smaller. With the 10-50x60 scope with moa2 the dot is .125 at 48x

I don't own one with the MOA2 reticle but based on info at Sightron website the MOA 2 reticle is .25 at max power on the 8-32. Cut and paste from sightron.com, H = target dot.

The web site is both confusing & wrong. There is better info by downloading the pdf brochure, although there are still mistakes in that also. The Sightron marketing people should be fired ASAP. The moa2 reticle is identical in the 6-24, 8-32, and 10-50. They are 2 moa and .25 dot at 24x in all 3 scopes. The 8-32 and 10-50 have the luxury of getting smaller dots and smaller hash graduations by zooming to a higher power.

I too have noticed errors on Sightron's website and brochures. Whomever is writing this stuff needs to consult with the technical department more, and someone needs to proof if from there. Great scopes; not so much with their marketing documentation. Guess this is true with a lot of companies though.

I agree that there's room for improvement as far as Sightron's website & owner's manuals go. However, it seems as though they've listened to a lot of requests for more reticle choices and responded with the 2 MOA reticle, which is my favorite. I've got two of their SIII 6-24x50s with this reticle, and am planning to buy more. Also have a couple of the 8-32x56 LRDs, and three more 6-24x50s - one LRD, and two LRMDs. Although I've always enjoyed owning & using Leupold VX3 LR scopes, I've slowly been selling mine off and replacing with Sightron S3s.

i agree on the moa-2 recticle just bought a 10-50-60 illuminated and it is sweet the whole scope is nice i can see more sightrons in my future.
