Sightron 10-50x

I received my Sightron 10-50x yesterday. It is a sweet looking scope, and I can't wait to try it out. As stated in some other posts, the turrets are pretty easy to turn, but there are dust covers to protect them from accidently being turned. The scope came with cheap flip up covers that I will replace soon. I thnk it is a decent scope for under $840.00.

Have seen some other posts claiming this. Somewhere in Pennsylvania? $840.00, whats the big secret? Or maybe this isnt a fact at all?

Name of vendor?

SWFA had them on sale for a few days at $839.00. I'm still waiting for my $699.00 8-32x. Its on backorder.

Its not a secret. Its a small local shop that does not do online sales nor a site supporter here.

Nat, I dont think it matters much any more. The Sightron sales market has been wrecked. No previous publicity marketing on the 10-50x60, slow delivery and every dealer that can buy from a distributor has sold at prices where no one makes any money. Sightron had 2 of its biggest buyers lowball price their merchandise for a few days, right after the big scope became available, but they did get caught quickly. But the damage to the sales market is already done. Now a buyer is afraid to spend money for fear he is going to pay to much. What a waste !!!! I just pulled my ad and will leave the Sightron sales business to the whore sellers in this market. Larry in western Ky.

"Dealer cost from a local distributor is $795.92 That's unit quantity of one to a Mom & Pop operation and I would guess the larger outfits may get a much better deal. I can see where a low profit moderate volume dealer could sell them for $840 and make out OK. Some guys are willing to do over the counter sales for 5-10% profit to draw a crowd."

That's the way my local "mom & pop" FFL's keep people coming back, they have low to no over head and don't stock enough to worry about "inventory tax". So they save us shooters some money while cutting the throats of "stocking dealers", it's called business.

Mike, I dont care how small your business is, there is plenty of overhead, I can attest to that. Buying cheap is good for the consumer, but eventually Mom and Pop wont survive on minimal profit margins, and then all you have left is the big money companies. Satisfying the consumer demand to buy CHEAP is what has broken the back bone of the American Industrial market. Wal Mart, the nations biggest employer, has caused more manufactureres to move out of the US in order to compete in the CHEAP market, likewise destroying the remaining small US manufacturers that cant compete w/near zero cost offshore labor market. This filters down to the small retailers who cant buy the volume for the better prices, so he is out of the game. Jobs are lost and BIG MONEY wins again. Larry in western Ky

There are whores in every business. I get killed by them every day in the NYC construction business. I feel for the small guys trying to make money, but me as a consumer, will jump on that Sightron 8-32 for $699.00 every day. Its called capitalism. Survival of the fittest. What's mine is mine and whats your is yours. I got mine, too bad on you, you have to go get your own. . You have to look out for yourself and nobody else.

I just checked SWFA. The 10-50 x 60 is $994.95 and the 8-32 x 56 is $839.95 I've been selling the 10-50's for $925 shipped. I can't see how anyone can stay in business buying these scopes at $795 paying a 2.5% credit card fee plus shipping making them $835 to the door and selling them for $840, making $5 profit. It's not even worth it and will be out of business before they know it. I'll be upfront and honest, my mark up is only 9% but I don't normally keep scopes in stock, I special order them to keep the costs lower and the overhead down. When I buy as a consumer I'd rather pay a couple bucks more to the little guy to keep him in business. By selling too cheap you'll end up out of business and at some point the big companies will own everything and charge whatever they want. Support your local little guy.

I don't get it! Because somebody's business model is different than your's, why do they have to be a whore?
Everybody has different $ amounts for their utility bills; some people have businesses with 10 employees, some with a couple family members, and some lone wolves. By the end of the day everybodys plate looks a little different: So, what their goal is for a one year span is completely different from the MIDWAY down the street.
The chips will fall where they may! Hopefully everybody's business plan comes to fruition.

Not sure i like being called a "whore" but to each there own.......

Let's start here, if you are in business and pay for your products with a credit card that costs 2.5% then something is wrong....you need a line of credit, payable net 20 days, most of all my accounts for my Bindery Service, HVACR and Mech. Contracting Co. where set up that way (once we got above 4 employees I had to get help from an accountant) and life was good as long as there is positive cash flow.

Overhead......Larry your right...and everyone is different, as stated no ones business plan is the same...mine was simple. Low overhead and high quanitiy sales means higher profits, or to say work as cheap as possible and sell 10 items to make what the other guy does by selling 5. Part of my companies where Service as in Building Maint. HVACR which is mostly labor, until you get into the construction end. Then that's where I bid a job and would add 1% to the equipment cost...looked good on paper, got us jobs that kept the guys working through winter, helped get our foot in the door with UPS/Chain Solutions, Wal-mart/Sam's, Pricechopper Food Stores and a list of others, which all led to Maint. contracts.

I started out in 1985, a world traveled vet, hungry, with a beat up old Ford van, some hand tools and a general knowledge of mechanics/refridgeration/AC and 1000 business cards. I have since sold off most of the operations, only keeping one account that keeps a friend employed and me Health Ins.

It worked for me because I worked....retired and not yet 50.

It's the American way. Competition and/or consumer demand sets the price on everything. That's the way it is.........

Actually some manufacturers forbid you do discount their product. Its in your dealer contract. Callaway golf clubs are a good example. Discount their product and you loose the dealership. No one wants to loose a Callaway dealership, so you sell the clubs at their price. Wolf stoves is another that comes to mind. There are many more. If the product is in such demand, the manufacturer can regulate the pricing. Good for the dealer, maybe not so good for the consumer. You want that Big Bertha driver, well you gonna pony up $299.00 just like everyone else. Saturn and Scion autos come to mind. Pay sticker, and no haggling.

If I was Sightron I would have made the SIII line a full retail only product as it is their elite product. Then we would have continued to see better and better products from them. As it is they just destroyed a lot of hard work by guys like Larry.

Taildrag,

He is not paying for his product with a CC. He is paying the bank the 2.5% to allow his customer to pay via credit card! He is doing the customers a favor!
I used to own a small business too. You work for your customers and never make a nickel, just like gun sales. The only people that make any money are the manufacturers and the States Sales Tax office. The guy that is there to help you out, let you play with these items and help you if there are any issues, is the one that never sees a dime at the end of the day.
Larry I feel for you my friend.

So, Larry, what you gonna do now? Are you out of the Sightron business? If so, what are you selling now that you like? I bought from you in the past and you did me good. Will you deal in Bushnell 6500 Elite, the new ones sound good, you gonna sell any of them? Please advise.
