Sighting-in Millett LRS with Bushnell Boresight

I just got a Millett 6-25x LRS scope. With the supplied Millett Rings the scope sits 2.5" above the rifle's bore.

My local gunshop said that with their Bushnell Boresight you wouldn't even see the grid in the scope since it was so high above the bore (they claim they tried).

Is this true, or are they BSing me? I'd buy my own boresight, but not if it won't work with a scope/rings this high.

What's the correct answer guys?

2.5 " is a bunch above the bore & it is possible that they are telling you straight. My suggestion is to buy a $40-45 laser bore sighter. They work great, just bear in mind that after you adjust right & left, that the dot needs to be below the crosshairs unless you can see it at 100 yds in low light. I usually dial mine in in the basement but I know about how low it should be at that distance. A couple shots at 100 & it's ready.

if it's a bolt gun. set it up on bags remove the bolt. then lookthrough the bore and ceneter it on your target. then adjust the scope without moving the rifle. if you do it correctly you'll be on paper and as close as any bore sight job.

I always do as Ron said: bore sight, and I use a large paper at 50 yards. Within 2 or 3 shots I'm centered, then move right out to 100, 2 or 3 more and on to 200. Have never seen the need for any type of lighted or laser sight-in device. If it's a rifle that does not permit bore sighting (lever action, MI, etc), I start at 25 yds., then 50, then 100, etc.

I use a brick on the fence across the yard. Pull the bolt, line up the barrel on the brick, then adjust the scope to line up in the middle of the brick. Cheap, works, and is quick. You will be on paper with no problem at 100 yards.

First buy some rings that will fit the scope closer to the barrel and your shooting setup as possible or you'll be looking for an adjustable cheek piece also.

I've never had a gunsmith mount a scope for me, I always wondered how would they set the eye relief for me?

Solved the problem. Rather than buying a set of $200 low rings for a $400 scope, I returned the scope.

You didn't solve anything; you only delayed your next problem. Rule #1: NEVER have a gun shop mount your scope, boresight your scope, or do anything to your scope. If you're not going to take on this simple but essential task, then you should probably stick with iron sights, or an airsoft.

The brand of the products is immaterial. Mounting a cheap POS scope on cheap POS rings requires the same care as top-of-the-line gear. You need to understand how stuff works. It just takes an investment of your time. Maybe you're too busy arguing with liberals in San Francisco to learn what you should know about this other stuff.

Good one NateHaler......you put it straight out there like always!

Now if I could only sell $49 Leupold PRW rings for $200 I'd buy me wife a new ring!
