Sierra 150 grain 6.5 Matchking

But you know that's not going to stop guys from trying them in an 8"..
I know... However, there is a possibility of getting decent accuracy. I ran the Berger Twist rate cal. with the dimensions of the bullet drawn from this thread. I used 2930 as the velocity figure at sea level. The calculator showed in the LOW 1.4's>>> Not good enough for me>>>but it may work at higher velocities and higher elevations in the mountains. BUT I would rather do a 7.5 if I were to do some serious testing..

I would love to see the results of your testing with it! What are you going to shoot it in?
The top one.

What case is that based off of? It looks like a RIMMED case. Is it based on the 30-30 Win.? I know you say it's a 6.5BR Lapua, but I never heard of that>>>especially with a rimmed case?
I was going to just call it the 6.5 Lapua because the name is not taken and it suites it, but Dave Kiff at PTG beleived it fit so many of the BenRest criteria he added the BR designation. It is based on Lapua 7.62x53r. It cannot be made from anyone else's brass. Hens the use of the Lapua name.

Now lets not get too off topic though on this nice new Sierra bullet. I did some numbers in Bergers twist rate calculator and as long as you are pushing these new Sierra bullets at 2900 or faster, a 1:8 twist will work. If you can only push them 2800 then a 1:7.75 will do or anything faster. Dave Kiff believes I can get 3150fps using 140 Hybrids with the 6.5 BR Lapua. 2900 should be easy to reach.

Thank You! That is the FIRST 7.5 /6.5mm barrel I have seen. It is a Heavy Palma, which is great for Sling Shooters, however, for F-Open, I like a straight tube 1.25... Thanks Again though!! But it does let me know that barrel makers are on to the L-O-N-G 6.5 pills!

I cannot think of anyone right off hand stocking our barrels in a faster twist then 1-8 but we've been making 1-7 and 1-7.5 twist barrels for quite some time. Even have made 6.5's as fast as 1-6.5 twist.

All of the AMU barrels are spec'd at 1-7 twist, along with the military for bolt and gas guns.

Core Shooting Solutions https://www.coreshooting.com/collections/bartlein-barrels while they cater mostly to PRS style shooters has changed all of they're open orders over to 1-7 twist as well.

For F class I like the straight tubes also.

That is why we need for you to spin up a 7.5 twist and get real data. We need to get you a couple of sponsors with a test barrel and some bullets so we have some independent testing from an active member who has 50+ years in shooting and loading. So much so can quote target loads from memory from at least a dozen or two different cartridges!! And has some spare time on his hands to get good test data and details...

The rifle I tried is a 30" Brux 1 in 8 twist barrel, 6.5X55 swede chambering with .147 freebore. Barnard action. I've got places here to shoot out to a mile but my handiest ranges are 650, 1140, and another spot at 980 yards either at the farm or within a mile at neighbors fields here. Mid 2900's for velocity checked with my labradar, there may be more or less on the table, it's cold here and I can shoot from 70+degrees out of my house for "warm weather data"

I hope to run them in my 6.5X47 lapua and my 260 shortly, maybe tomorrow. I don't think I'll waste much or any time with the x47, there just isn't enough horsepower there to push them.

I was wondering how far the 150 SMK would stick down into the case of my 260 Remington as compared to the 142 SMK. I made the measurement and as it turns out the dimension is the same for both bullets. I have a standard 260 chamber so the 142 SMK sticks into the case past the neck but this has not seemed to me to have been a problem since I get good accuracy and velocity with the 142 SMK in this configuration. So I plan to load the 150 SMK with the same load as I have been shooting with the 142 SMK for 1000 yard competition and see how it does. I will start with accuracy and velocity testing at 100 yards and will have my 142 SMK data for comparison.

Let us know your .260 results. I am also interested in trying them. Do you have a base to ogive measurement on the 150? Will be interesting to compare with the 142s I now use

Has anyone done wind drift calculations for the 150 SMK? I would be interesting to see how they compare with the 142 SMK at 500 and 1000 yards
