Show me your camouflage rifle..

I have a new CZ 527 American walk around varmint gun.

How would you camo it?

What is the best way to camouflage the gun?

What is the easiest way to camouflage a gun.

If you want it to be permanent what would you use?

If you wanted it to be removable what would you use?

If it is not too much trouble could you post a picture of some of your handiwork?

Thanks,
Chuck

Chuck I have several that I have painted myself. All of mine are synthetic stocked. I use the ultra flat paints available at wally world. I start by cleaning with very hot water and simple green to get all the oil off. I use an adhesion promoter to get the paint to really stick.

I start by spraying the whole stock with a neutral color, tan or green then I go into the yard and select some leaves and fern branches. I lay these against the stock and use them as templates and overspray them with darker and lighter colors this gives your stock patterns and the illusion of of depth. I use a flat clear coat to finish and protect the paint.

I will get some photos and attempt to post them.

This is an easy technique I practiced on a piece of cardboard till I was comfortable doing gunstocks.

Bought all the paint from Wally World.,flat camo) Green base coat, followed by black lines from a Sharpie. Then used a handfill of dried weed stems to spray past to put on the grey and brown for the "break-up" effect. Total cost about $6.00. Time invested, less than an hour.
Comments at the range, priceless.
Hope this helps,
Lloyd

1shot, that is one great looking stock. Thanks for the ideas..

jb77, thanks also for your input. What brand of adhesion promoter did you use and where did you buy it? I would like to see a picture of your gun, hope you can post it. I always have one hell of a time posting pictures.

Chuck I buy the adhesion promoter at a local paint store. It is a fairly common item I have seen it at most hardware stores.

Not so much trouble with the photos but I am still on dialup so everything loads so slowly. One of the joys of living in the country.

I live in California where we have dry brush most of the year. For those conditions, I like this color scheme, NaturalGearâ„¢

Not unlike a Western rattler, and we know that mother nature makes the best camouflage.

See this page on NaturalGear camouflage. I think they're on the right track: http://www.naturalgear.com/science.asp?Section=Science

One thing to keep in mind -- "Birds see colors. Deer-type critters and coyotes and such don't." Virtually all varmints do not see blaze orange as orange. The animals perceive it as grayish tan. Hence, unless you're hiding from two-legged predators or hunting turkeys, you don't need photo realistic camouflage at all. Hence...

Thats the camo pattern I use out here in the California deserts seems to work very well now if I could find someone to dip my rifle to match.

Oh and I'm not affiliated with either.....:)

Hope this helps!

I almost contemplated doing the Bell and Carlson camo dipping, with Natural Gear Camo. My real question is how well does this type of camo hold up? Will it hold up as well as factory camo-ed finishes?
