For a true HG, I would say 30-60lbs, over 100 they won't shoot good too much weight and they won't recoil right.

Mine is around 80 pounds. But I shoot a 300 WSM with no brake. In a dasher with a brake you could probably get away with 30 to 40. Two of the best heavy guns I ever saw were a 100 pound WSM and a 100 pound Dasher both with brakes. I believe it is more important to have everything straight and aligned. That is why I like a glue in block because they use set screws at each end and the barrel and action can be aligned and measured before it is glued. After the glue dries you loosen the set screws. The stock needs to be made on a mill so the rails and stock are straight. Matt

My Heavy 300wsm just received a 308 bolt face bolt from Bat so I will probably shoot a combination next year either a 6mm Dasher or a 300 wsm it will be interesting.
