Shout Out to Lilja Barrels

Want to give a shout out to Lilja Barrels. I won a barrel certificate from them at the NBRSA 600 Nationals and used it on one of their carbon fiber barrels. I needed a light weight barrel for my 6.5 CM to make weight on an NRL Hunter rifle. I put 100 rounds thru the barrel breaking it in then shot some ammo I already had loaded for another barrel. My first three shot group at 550 yds measured 1.85". I put a can on the barrel and shot a 3.5" group. This is with no load development and shot off a bipod.
Load was Lapua brass, Hornady 140 ELDMs, H4350, 450 pr
Big thanks to Carson Lilja @Hoodoo. Looks like this barrel is a keeper.

I haven't had a Lilja barrel in quite a few years but I still have numerous on different builds and never had a bad one. Lilja's 17 and 20 cal barrels are pretty highly regarded as some of the best in those particular calibers

What barrel contour and groove count did you choose ?

They are definitely being used by some great shooters who are doing well with them.

Most, including myself, often pay too much attention to equipment reports which can even be inaccurate because of changes made in preparation for the match after the paperwork is sent in.

I wonder why you don't hardly ever see that name on the equipment lists of the 1000 yard benchrest equipment lists? Seems like 95% of the barrels listed are Kreiger, Brux, or Bartlein?

Not sure about why that is, lots of varmint shooters love the Lilja brand and how they shoot. Perhaps the Wisconsin mafia has the bench rest shooters bottled up. Or maybe old guys resist change a lot. They certainly shoot well enough too win. If memory serves Dan Lilja did well when he competed and it seems to me Greg Tannel shot a .007" group with a Lilja that was a 20ppc a few years back at 100 yards but something about a crossfire kept it from the record books. Perhaps its time to campaign a Lilja and see.
