I've been wondering what you use to buff out those stocks. Compound wise and machine wise. I can't imagine using a regular buffer like you would use on a V dub. I've never been able to buff a urethane finish to match the old laquer finishes we used to do back in the 70's. Whats the secret?

The secret is I grew up spit shinning my step pop jump boots and low quarters.
I'd melt neutral shoe polish and use the cotton out of a tampon. True story!
As for gun stocks, I finish sand with Meguiars 2000 grit. "Getting ready to try thier 3000"
I use a 3" pneumatic buffer. I start with a 3" wool pad and Meguiars M100 compound, then I switch to a foam polishing pad and Meguiars finishing wax.
A good stogie helps!

for those folks that don’t wanna order or have access to Megs commercial compounds. M105 followed by M205 works extremely well also and can be found at Walmart, Advanced Auto and the likes... I use a 4” Lake Country wool pad followed by a yellow or white foam pad. No wax for a couple weeks.

Do not mix up your stogies with your tampons

As I work in plastics and polish them often, I tell many people that the basic head light restoration kits work reasonably well for polishing. They typically have all the right grits, compounds and attachments for drills. Just be careful on sharp corners. I have my own recipe i use on plastics and will use on stocks, but its derived through my own techniques and experiance and not something easily conveyed through text.

If you have never seen one of Bretts stocks in person, the pics on here don't do it justice! My 2nd on in in transit as I type and I'm like a kid waiting on Christmas! At first glance, they look wet, like yo could put your finger into a pool of water. Whatever your doing Brett, just keep doing it!
