Should I get a new barrel or, stick this one out?

If those groups are good enough, then who am I to say! I think the Shilen barrel will treat you a whole lot better than the A&B barrel has been. Hand loading isn't something a person can learn over night. I've been reloading for a couple years and lord knows I'm still learning. Good luck with your endeavors!

Thank you. I will gladly take all of the luck that I can get! I agree with you regarding the Shilen barrel. I have a 1/9 Shilen in 6.5x55 on another rifle that is shooting in the .4's with boring consistency. The A&B has required a lot of work to get it to even shoot as well as it is doing now. In contrast, after break-in the Shilen shot well with very little load development. The Shilen cost nearly three times as much, but there is no question in my mind that you get what you pay for.

Has anyone used RE-15 in the 22-250 and had any good luck? I have a factory Remington varmint barrel and have trouble getting it to group.
Thanks

Glenn

CanusLatransSnpr,

Have you decided on what you are going to do?

I am going through the similar dilemma with a 220 Swift I picked up cheap at a yard sale. I cleaned the rifle up as much as I could. Cleaned and got rid of minor rust with Corrosion X and Kroil. Cleaned the bore with Outers Foul Out 3 Bore Cleaning System. And the still rifle doesn't group.

I am considering having the rifle rebarreled. Several years back I had a .243 Sako Forester L57 rebarreled with 26" Lija 1:12 twist and was very happy with the results.

I am curious of what made you choose a McGown for your .243. One gunsmith I know also speaks highly of them. Others have recommended Shilen (which I have also used in the past), Hart, PAC-NOR, Broughton, Bartlein, Lija, and Krieger.

I have heard great reports of people using Broughton 5C, Bartlein 5R, and Krieger 5R barrels.

I plan on having the same twist rate as the stock barrel of 1:12.

I am curious what everyone here thinks about all this? Any input would be appreciated.
