Should F-class Xs score points (11)?

Well - you are a unified bunch :)

Thanks for the opinions and passion it has been interesting.

I started this thread as the internationals that attended our one international event where the debate started in earnest, all indicated they would not travel to the meeting again until the scoring was addressed. I understand that the Aussies have already moved to a higher central scoring system, I am not sure of the exact details.

I have shot under both scoring systems and see merits in both systems - both allow the best shooters to rise to the top, the philosophies and assumptions however are quite different.

Best of luck all - I have 3 more months before the season opens. :(

I think things should stay as is and I'll tell you why. I look at it like the main goal is to get them into the 10 ring, picture the 10 ring being a gong. If you drop a 9, you wouldn't here that gong ring, it would be a miss.

At our local match's we shoot 40 rounds for score and a perfect score would be a 200 40X.

On Sunday I took second place with a 199 33X, the winner had a 200 30 X. Do I feel like I should have won it? No, I had one shot that missed that prized golden ring, only by .060 inch, and it opened up my group greater than his.

I can see your point on making the X ring count as point's but the only fair way to modify that would be to make the X ring points higher than all the rest.

Oh and we could add a little .25 MOA star in the center of the X ring for tie breaker's.

I'm left wondering where In the US do you shoot F-Class with 40 Record Rounds and get a 200-40X, the NRA Offical Targets have a Bull-X and 10-5 rings for all Approved/Registered reduced distances from 300 yds. to 1,00 yds.?

In all honesty changing the scoring won't change anything but scores. The winners will be the same because they are winners and they will adjust their strategy and continue to win!

For a match to prosper and grow the success rate needs to be at a level that keeps the interest of the competitors. Too difficult then the beginners back away, too easy then too many perfect scores! We seem to be at a good level presently and have a good growth rate. Putting number value to the center will dampen the influx of novice shooters because we have added another step to the ladder.

This is held at our local Springwater rod and gun club N.Y.. The scoring and target's are different, you have a total of 4 targets that you will shoot 10 at each. The range is only 185 yards, but the target's are scaled down in size to match official 1000 yard target's. I think there's more target's because of the short range of fire and tighter grouping of bullet's it's easier for them to score. the 10 ring is worth 5 point's here too. This is the way Odessa N.Y. runs their match's too except their at 250 yards and I ussually shoot F-TR with a .308. This match here on Sunday, I shot off the bench in open using a friend's .222 for the very first time.

You can look on Sniper's hide F class section and see the score's for all our match's at Springwater ans Odessa. Normally I am a 180's shooter with my .308 in prone position, but I am stoked with my last performance, off the bench.
