F-Class sighter Tactics

Bill

Im not sure I can agree that the 60 round International 300 Meter match is less fatigeing than a normal NRA prone match. I shot the Nationals at Ft Benning Georga in 2009 and found myself getting bogged down around shot 40 or so.. Whoo wee was that a Marothon of shooting. I thought heck this is going to be easy... Well I guessed wrong. Shooting the first 30 was no sweat because thats my normal time in the sling and train for.
Its a tough one either way. Wish we shot more of it here in the States.

Russ.........guess I should have specified I was shooting F class in the 300 ISU. In Canada it is shot shoulder to shoulder with the Palma types in the various Provincial shoots. We call it the Sierra match because Sierra donates prizes.

The ISU target has no X-ring so for F Class we stick an arbitrary X-ring on the target. Otherwise tie-breakers that go on forever.

I find string shooting in F Class less tiring than squad shooting because you are not lying there waiting for 2 other guys to dope the wind. In squad the target board goes up and down 3 times for your every one shot assuming no scoring or equipment problems with the other two guys. If there are problems the board can go up and down 6 times for your every one shot. Can become exasperating.

To get back to the original question, I think it is easier to stay with the wind in string because you don`t have the potential delays in squad that have nothing to do with your own personal shooting.

6BRinNZ...........I get the drift from your last response to Russ that you have gone to single string DownUnder. Is my interpretation correct?

Yes this is correct...it does seem to put a lot of emphasis on the marker as a slow marker could cost you the match given the aggs are often only 1 point apart.

We have either 2 sighters and 7 shots for score or 2 sighters and 10 shots for score. If it is a club day and the yardage is fixed we would shoot two strings on rotation. The spring regional meeting was 4 yardages, single string and 2 sighters plus 10 shots for score.

Will be watching to see what affect the AU Worlds have on the Canadian Palma shooters who were down there shooting string style in regular competition.

The DCRA is very tradition oriented with strong ties to Bisley, making sure a Palma team goes to Bisley every year.

Tie breaks are shot single string in Canada with each shooter having their own target. The pit boss usually makes sure the best pullers are on the tie break target boards.

If Laurie is reading this thread it would be interesting to hear his views on string vs squad in the UK.
