shotshell reloading and rifle bullets

A fair number of Forum members also reload for trap and/or skeet.

Just bought lead shot at its latest price and calculated the cost per shell for reloading 1 oz trap loads using the cheapest Chedite primers and ClayBuster wads. Use Red Dot because it is clean burning.

The Canadian dollar is above par with the U.S. dollar and the cost of Winchester Super Target and Federal Top Gun trap loads have taken quite a tumble north of the Border.

In Ontario it is actually cheaper now to shoot factory trap loads than to reload them for the first time that anyone can remember.

The Japanese are going to need a whack of copper to rebuild. This coupled with the price of lead makes one wonder about the coming cost of rifle bullets for reloading.

Where are we headed guys?

Bill

As it's always been,it never gets cheaper next year. Total cost (1970) for 1# IMR 3031, 100 CCI primers, 100 Speer 125 SPs, Lee Load All (30-06) was 30 squirrel tails and 11 (fresh)rabbits at Dugan's gun shop. I don't think stores except that currencey any more ;)

I used to reload shotshells for action shooting matches. I could not beat the price of Wally World 12ga shells, but I still reloaded because I could get a much lighter kicking load that still knocked down all the targets. I also used premium once-fired hulls that ejected better out of my scatterguns.
