Best source for shotshell practice loads?.

One of the reasons I wanted to load was because it was hard to find light loads. Recoil is the enemy of young shooters. Make sure the gun isn't banging her around at all and shoot light loads. I think girls are better about admitting when something bothers them where the boys had to be tough only to see them picking their head off the stock down the road.
I loaded 7/8oz for most and loaded 3/4oz for the first shot on doubles. Most registered shoots are around 300 rounds per day so the lighter payloads reduced recoil and $$.
Enjoy, I sure miss those days. Not so much the nights at the loader though.

The local school team uses Franchi semi autos (they can also use their own shotguns). It helps with the recoil for the sensitive shooters.

I reload all my shotshells from 410 to 12 ga. Im sure that I dont save any money but I can try different load combinations. Right now components are hard to find. Many of the powders, wads, hulls etc that made the best rounds have been discontinued. Fortunately, I saw it coming and stocked up. I dont load many target loads but mostly hunting shells. I also shoot many predators on the farm. I have found that I can get the best patterns from a particular gun by load development. I do pay attention to published loads but have enough experience to vary some. Wads are the biggest contributing factor for patterns along with a good crimp . Be sure to load wads made for straight wall hulls only in straight wall hulls and wads for tapered hulls only in tapered hulls. The best place I have found to get once fired hulls is Billy D's supplies. If you are going to try shotshell reloading, be sure to get the Lyman manual and get a loader that makes good crimps

If you think your patterns are too sparse---just go to a tighter choke.

I think you'll find that most misses are due to not making a good move
with your gun.

I've tried several types of factory stuff and it was good enough for me.

The Win promotional loads are certainly not on a par with the good AA stuff
but they do use a AA wad. The Rem Gun Club is also a very
good shell.

I'm glad to hear about getting young folks started in shooting----they can rub elbows with the best people around-----and someday they'll become voters.

I started her with 3/4 oz reloads, when I ran out she shot a round with factory loads, she said they were ok but noticed the difference. I have been considering adding weight in the stock to tone it down. She is shooting a mossberg 510 mini right now because is is so short, she is pretty short for her age. Might look into an auto when she grows a little. I switched to an auto last year and am liking it so far

I shot LOTS of trap at one time. 44,000 targets a year. Look for slow loads of 8 or 8.5 shot at 1090fps. They recoil a lot less and the slow loads pattern much better . I found in a 12g 1090fps had a nicer recoil and broke targets better than 7/8 load going a bit faster. Speed is way overrated in trap.
