Shortening a bolt?

I've got a Rem 700 bolt that was in a LA and the previous owner screwed it up trying to weld a bolt handel on. I was able to cut the bad section off and still have plenty of bolt left to make a SA bolt for it,actualy need to shorten a bit more)

I was wondering if any of you guys ever done such a thing,I have several PT&G bolts here to use as a pattern to cut the cocking cam and detent, the radius looks to have been cut with a 3/16 cutter.

I was wondeing if I'd be waseting my time or is it vaible to make this bolt work for a SA.

I was think that while I had the handel off I would fully sleeve the bolt also.

Any advise or oppinions

There are more pieces to that Rem L/A bolt than what meets the eye.
All induction silver soldered together!!

I welded this long, home made bolt handle on a VZ24 when I was building a 300 Win mag.
