Shortages got me into air rifle target shooting.

I use to shoot benchrest every Sunday morning , great group of friends but the shortages in supplies stopped me cold . I would shoot at 200 yards with my trusty 308 in the warm months . Now because of all the vanishing supplies I got into air rifle target shooting , I love it just as much shooting 10 to 15 meters then shooting 200 yards. Get yourself a good break barrel or under lever air rifle with a good trigger and you'd be hooked too. I'm starting with a HW95 my next will be a HW97. Give it a try
Chris

I brought a bunch of 22 Lr ammunition with me to my Texas house. When I left, we had squirrels everywhere in the yard. When I got back, not a squirrel in site for a week now. Maybe air guns are the answer? I have plenty of components. I may proceed with building a good backstop for a 100 yard range behind my garage.

I enjoy most all shooting disciplines. However, a shotgun seems to be absolutely worthless in my hands. Clay discs of any color with any speed above 1mph are totally safe from me. :/
Fun is where we find it, right? :)
You too? I can’t seem to get it either! Maybe it’s genetic! Maybe age. I used to hunt pheasant. Shot a bunch when I was young. These days, I can’t hit a barn if I’m standing inside it!

I am thinking along the same lines. Although I hope .to shoot a pretty normal schedule next year I am getting prepared. If gas sky rockets and indication are it just might, plus if enough guys got caught short I think there my not be a normal amount of matches to shoot. So I bought an AA TX 200 under lever air rifle in .177 and a 4x12 scope to top it off. Rifle should arrive Monday, scope came yesterday. Once I sort thru what pellet it likes I will get well supplied. So if shoots become scarce or shooters become scarce I will be set up to play at home learning how to shoot a springer. Nope, no interest in PCP.

I have 2 Feinwerkbau 300s side lever. Don't have to take them out of the rest to cock them they are very accurate and have a very good trigger. I also shoot in my basement good trigger time and cheap to shoot.

I took have gone into air rifles but haven’t sold the benchrest rifles yet. The transition wasn’t tough at all, either. It’s all the same principles. How’d I do? In my first year I came in third or fourth in USARB. Not bad for a new guy.

sorry I sure do not feel the same.
I sure the federal guberment would be over joyed at the thought of us mere mortals laying down our evil powder / primer propelled firearms instead and picking up a far less capable air powered rifle.
Once again reading comprehension.

That tx200 is a work of art , you'll love it . My next will be a toss up between the HW97k and the tx200 , can't go wrong with either. Great choice Jeff , Be Well and shoot straight.
Chris
PS I suggest shooting at 10 to 15 meters at first before going 25 and further , if possible , sight that bad boy in at a indoor range.

Well Josh, my coach has a Guerini (SP?). You are close to my standard statement: Give me a fitted Guerini, a pallet of shells, in an old barn.........I couldn't get wood. :/

I enjoy your posts all. Air rifles are good for squirrel hunting, rabbit, fox, crow, and in some States up to deer. I saw the post about no PCP, but once you go over to the dark side, you'll need half a dozen at least. They are way easier to shoot well, and their range is out to 100 yards for .25 and above.

If you haven't tried JSB pellets, do yourself a favor and get some. They are about as good as they get.

Ya' know fellas,,,,,Not sure if an air rifle would be my thing.
Now Precision Flintlock might interest me. Black powder
can be made at home, Flints can be found laying on the
ground, and lead can be found by stealing your neighbors
wheel weight's..... We have at our range, the" Fort Erie
Muzzle Loaders". I was impressed with what some of those
36 calibers can do at 100 yards !!

Other then that......Any words on the 20 cal (5mm) rifles for
bench work ??

PCP's: So enjoyable to shoot. Not a firearm, quiet, no recoil, accurate as heck.. Kinda $$$ on the front end but cheap to poke holes... Check out:

Mark, all those great points on PCP is why I am going springer. Looking to learn a new skill. PCP is like a well tuned PPC. I have 2 friends who got into PCPs in a big way. Sold them and went to springers. Same answer from both of them. PCPs while amazing quickly became boring. I don't have enough years left to do boring, lol.

I don’t shoot paper just squirrels and pest birds. My objective is to kill. They are amazing rifles and easy to shoot. I started with springers and then someone handed me a pcp. Then it got crazy trying to find the ultimate pcp. I came to my senses and decided what I got is working.

As a kid, I spent many hours honing my marksmanship skills with crosman and daisy air rifles. Now I mostly enjoy long range target shooting with my "powder burners" as the Brits like to say. I was hoping that my son would develop an affection for shooting, but he's still a little young and doesn't fancy the hour plus drive to the closest outdoor ranges. I bought an HW97k some years back and introduced it to my son recently. Now every Saturday morning I'm awakened to the sound of pellets smashing into wood in my backyard. Some folks like the sound of birds chirping in the morning, but there's nothing more pleasing to my ears than pellet on wood. Kevin has taken quite a fancy to the HW97k and has a collection of targets with virtually one hole groups at various distances. I also have a .25 MROD PCP that Kevin shoots incredible 75 yard groups with, but having to refill it after every 15 shots is inconvenient, even with a high pressure air compressor. Modern air rifles definitely have a place in my arsenal, but sadly finding decent pellets has become almost as difficult as finding reloading components, especially for the .25 cal. Scope durability can be challenging on the springers as well. Best to purchase from a reputable manufacturer with a lifetime warranty because you're likely to need it if you shoot a lot.

I bought a daisy air pistol several years back for the day when the center fire provisions would dry up. Waiting for unrealistic deliveries on barrels, smiths and cartridge componants along with the ever increasing costs , many far above inflation rates . I recently spent 500 bucks on 4000 primers to keep it alive .Then there is the waiting for benches to open up at the gun range. Its just out of hand. When the time comes I'll keep enough centerfire for protection, then it will be air pistol and blowguns .Kids are all out and I have a 40 ft indoor range I can set up at an unused part of my house. Maybe lead pellets will be outlawed till that happens ,who knows. just my 2 cents worth. Bruce
