Pellet rifle "rediscovered", any air rifle folks ? caution, TMI

By far the best "Springer " I ever owned was my Beeman Kodiak in 25 cal, that spring had more tension on it then my garage door. I had it for about a year then I had to get rid of it because my arm started to look like Quagmire.

I have one for pest control. Just wish the really accurate ones didn't cost so much.
I feel the same way, but...
If you consider that they are both the vehicle and the energy prime mover it helps to rationalize the initial cost. No powder, no primers, no cases, no hours of case prep/weighing/precise seating, no barrels to burn up, just load the projectile (which are very cheap in comparison), and shoot. Over he life of the gun it's a bargain even if it is just the labor you save.

But then again, if you are not looking for another rabbit hole to jump into stay away from PCPs. I have four now and if I wasn't so old I'd buy more.

And don't watch this video or search youtube for "mile air rifle": half mile air rifle

For those of you with youngsters or grandchildren the Boyd's At-One stock is ambi and by taking the recoil pad off completely, it reduces LOP to 11". Not recommended for firearms IMG_20210617_201636.jpgAvailable for many models of airguns.

Some amazing velocity, accuracy, lethality to be had with PCP's. ( just an observation - looking on the interwebs). I'm not going that route, yet; but it sure is tempting :).

Interesting. Well, that's Illinois for you. Just looked it up. Looks like it changed in 2012. Must have bought mine before that. Time slips away. Need an FFL for a slingshot next.
I just bought a slingshot ...to discourage the deer from eating my newly planted chokecherry trees.

I was camping with my son, 15 years ago in Zion, UT, national park campground (awesome), and we were "shooting" paper targets with a slingshot. Ranger stopped by and said - nope, can't do that, here. Mind you, we were shooting safely w a backstop. So, we went hiking :).

Aren't such laws in your country enacted by legislators elected by citizens such as yourself?

I apologize for such a late reply. I'm still getting my head around how this forum works and somehow I completely missed your response.

That's true. Firearm laws are set by state governments but in accordance with what is called the National Firearms Agreement (NFA). The NFA is a set of guiding principles that were enacted by the Federal Government in agreement with all the state governments after the 1996 Port Arthur Massacre. My state of Queensland did not agree with the terms of the NFA but the Federal Government threatened to withhold federal funding (here in Australia state governments only raise about 15% of their operating revenue directly - the rest comes in transfer payments from the feds who hold the power to levy income and company tax). Queensland therefore gave in to the demands an enacted the draconian legislation.

At both the federal and state level politics in essentially a two party system - same us in the USA. Both of the major parties (Australian Liberal Party - which are our "conservatives" and the Australian Labor Party - our "progressives") are rabidly anti-gun and do everything they can year after year to ban firearms. Their undisputed aim is to have no firearms outside of government hands. I should also note that while the Australian Liberal Party are our conservative party they still fall to the left of even your Democratic Party.

Our constitution does not have a bill of rights and hence the only rights we have are those granted to us by Parliament. This means there is no constitutional constraints on governments passing whatever laws they want to control firearms (well - really to control people).

There are minor pro firearms parties and I always vote for them at both state and federal elections. Problem is that there are around 900,000 shooters in our nation of about 27 million. The US equivalent would be about 9 million shooters in the entire country - so you can see we are a small group. To make matters worse the vast majority of shooters here don't even vote for the pro-shooting political parties as they prioritize other issues such as health, education, the economy etc over what could be termed their firearms "rights". You can see what the result is.

Sorry to ramble and hope I didn't bore you to death.

Good to know; thanks for sharing this info.
We are blessed in the US with (so far) Constitutional protections.
Pellet rifles, etc. are not serialized, to my knowledge.
So, have one shipped to your front door.
Anyone, correct me if I'm wrong.
Greetings from the U.S.
What air rifle are you shooting? :)
All air rifles have to be serial numbered to be imported into Australia. Apart from the draconian state gun laws which cover the possession and use of firearms (even pellet guns - sigh) there are very strict federal laws that cover the importation. Did you know that airsoft firearms are completely banned in Australia and airsoft is a prohibited activity? That is the extend of our gun hating governments. People lap it up as they have been bred to believe that it is all about keeping them safe.

I was recently running a Kral Puncher .22 PCP for pest control work (in fact 2 x Krals) but they are both no longer in use as they have developed problems and won't cock. There is basically no support industry for air rifles in Australia (limited exceptions for high end Olympic/ISSF style guns) and when things fail it is very difficult to get them repaired. Importing parts for firearms - including airguns, is difficult. It is easy enough to get the import permits from this end but most USA based companies will not ship to Australia so the parts are just not available. There seems to be a lot of interest starting to build in FX Airguns down under so I'm hoping they become a bigger part of the shooting scene and bring all the required service and support with them. I'll probably resort to a decent European under-lever springer in the meantime as it will at least get me up and shooting again. Just need to locate a decent springer rated scope.

We are definitely headed that direction as our political parties become more alike. It is strange that our democrat party, liberal, are unified and vote mostly as one. Our republican party, conservative, is split with many crossing the line to vote with the liberals. We are not so far different as many people will vote for different pet peeves. We are slowly loosing our culture as we become more controlled by our government. our government also uses our tax money as a reward for good behavior. Our states are becoming more dependent on the federal government for their welfare monies.

Our Second Amendment rights for firearms are slowly being eroded. It's sort of like the frog in the boiling pot. One day we could wake up defenseless. I'm afraid we're leaving our grandchildren a pretty sorry mess.

Sorry to ramble and hope I didn't bore you to death.
Not a bit of it, that was a great explanation of a complex issue, thank you, and worth the wait. I will just say it is only natural for any government to try to accumulate as much power over its population as possible. And to disarm the populace is to maximize power.

I keep noticing air gun posts..the God's must be speaking to me!..time to break out my TX ..
I wanted an air gun to practice trigger pull and keep sharp when I couldn't get to the rifle range.
Unfortunately like any other rifle (repeatable accuracy costs money!)..and the only way to get a nice aftermarket trigger..is to buy a nice air rifle..its a real catch 22..I dont think there are benchrest quality triggers for Gamo..it is also a blast to shoot rodents..just like when we were kids playing big game hunters outside..haha I'll try to post a few pics for fun.1000002622.jpg1000002619.jpg1000002618.jpg

I've done alot of work on this rifle..its more accurate then my shaking hands can hold it..and its a boat anchor..not for field use anymore..the scope it way to heavy..but as I said..if you think center fire is hard to shoot...try your hand with a spinger..its fun stuff...few more pics..TX200 left hand model

I have become involved in Springer Airguns for a bit over 2 years. They are amazing . It's a whole new shooting world. There is a learning curve. We have 2 local Springer only matches, I started and run one of them. These rifles will teach you bench manners. I have tried to get my wife to get involved in br for years. Doesn't like the recoil but will shot a .45acp, go figure. I sat her behind one of my Diana 75 spring guns several weeks ago. She agreed to shoot 1 shot. Now she refers to it as her gun. It's good I have 2 of them. My Diana 54 will hit a pingpong ball at 100 yrs most of the time in good conditions. All my airgruns, springers, shoot well inside a dime at 25 yards. No reloading, very minimal cleaning, .04 cents a shot with good pellets can be .03 with some pellets. I just offered 1 of my bench rifles to a guy yesterday , thinning the powder guzzler herd.

That is a fantastic story..ive got with some of the guys on GTA forum and purchased custom internals so it has the tuned piston .
I struggle to make a decision..there was a Dyna that was in a blue laminate stock that just looked incredible..maybe you have seen it..but after the reviews every one who purchased the TX fell in love....ill shoot mine till my elbow hurts from cocking it..or I'm completely frustrated because my hold is crap that day even off a bench...a rest doesn't seem to work the same as holding the rifle with a shooting glove and letting it slide...its alot to concentrate on

I will get a pic of my set up for you to see. I pretty much shoot the TX free recoil. Trigger is in the 2 to 3 oz range. Front protector bag in a regular rest. Butt in a machinist v block with 1 strip of fuzzy Velcro for the gun to ride on. Right hand very lightly on the pistol grip. No cheek, no shoulder, no left hand. Circles are notebook paper reinforcement rings. The target marked 20 yds was actually 20 meters/22 yards. 5 shot groups testing pellets. My Diana 75s shoot a bit better than the TX. 20240302_150606.jpg20221005_140659.jpg
