Short range BR shooting 100-200

I'm wondering How many guys will be using a .30 cal of some kind.
for BR group shooting compared to 6ppc guys

It seemed like a lot of testing has been going on with the .30 Stewart and other variants of the ppc as well as interest in the 30 BR for group shooting.
If you plan to campaign a 30 this year in Group shooting, interested minds want to know

I know Jackie has been testing some new Bart's 30cal bullets with excellent results. I'm not sure if Jackie will shoot them in group or score

Jackie has had success shooting a .30 for group

I have never shot in a sanctioned BR shoot, but I have scored 2. There were no 30 cal`s in rather, all rounds were rather 22 cal. or 6mm. I guess, with my very limited exposer, that means only that they are not real common.

You know I will. I don't shoot in that much for group, but I only shoot 30's. If I can figure out how to make my kids sports bills get paid, I plan on going to my first Nationals shoot this year in St. Louis.

I'm thinking of going this year too. Didn't make it last year. Hope to see you there Wes

H4198 for the 30BR vice the 6PPC's N133 is a big advantage when it comes to a very stable propellant. The world record [.0077" 5-shot group] wasn't shot with a 6PPC. I believe there will be more 30BRs shot in group in the coming years as the many advantages [less sensitive powder, heavier bullet, better barrel life, etc;] are recognized. ;)

I agree, that's why I'm wondering how many guys are going to go that way this year

I have a Hawk Hill .30 BR for my BAT and it is quite capable of shooting small enough to be competitive in group shooting.........BUT I am not capable of handling the extra recoil well enough to shoot an entire score match. In order to be successful in group shooting today, one must be able to "run" his/her group while the conditions are "right". I am not able to do so with the .30BR. Maybe after some practice this will change. Good shooting...James

I started shooting score with a 30 BR several years ago(3) when my friend talked me into going to a group shoot with it, (Fairchance pa Hog Roast) coming away from that shoot I felt like a guy taking a knife to a gun fight. I have since been shooting a 6 PPC and have seen a few guys compete with the 30 and I shoot a score shoot once in awhile with that 30. My input for you is this @ 100 you can hang but @ 200 you will probably at best be middle of the pack (on a mild day). Look at how many X's win @ 200 in a score shoot! What I suggest is buying a HV 30 barrel and screw it onto one of your actions and go to a group shoot with it and let yourself be the judge.JM2C.

As you know, aggs win matches and tournaments which translates to shooter points. Small groups win patches and fake wood. The best shooters learn how to keep on top of tune throughout the match.

I love my 30 Major for score, but I'm going to build a 6 PPC for UBR and club matches. The recoil is easier to manage and 6 mm bullets aren't as hard to come by.

I'm not thinking of going there myself. I'm just getting started with my 6ppc.

There just seemed to be a lot of buzz going around about the .30 in group shooting after Mikes record small group. With the modified 30ppc type Calibers whether the 30 Stewart or the 30 major. I know from reading the equipment lists all last year there were very few doing it
Just curious what people had on there minds for this season

And all of what you say can be done with a 30BR ... with preloaded ammo, also, as Jackie Schmidt proved sometime ago, it can produce winning aggs: http://bulletin.accurateshooter.com/2010/07/triumph-in-texas-jackie-schmidt-shoots-0-1118-5-target-agg-at-100-yards-with-30-br-best-in-history/

Although his agg was not a world record as initially hoped, the agg was still phenomenal. I think you'll see more 30BRs used in group competition in the coming years. ;)

I think so too. I gotta think the heavier bullet would help at 200 line. Maybe not I don't know

The BC of the 112-118gr 30 cal bullets is only about 10% higher than that of a 62-68gr 6mm bullet, and the 30BR is pushing them 300-400ft/sec slower than a 6PPC. So there's no advantage for the 30BR when shooting for group in the wind.

If you're going to shoot a 110gr-sized bullet and want to have an advantage (at least a theoretical advantage) in the wind at 200yd, a 6BR with a 95-105gr bullet might be worth a try. A good wind doper with a bugholing 6PPC is tough to beat out to 300yd, though.

I THOUGHT I SAW THAT A NEW RECORD WAS SHOT AT 100YDS WITH A 6PPC 5 SHOTS WAS 0.037 LAST FALL

I think it was a .0077 with a .30 cal. Kind of what was driving this post. Wondering if more guys were going to give it a try for this year.
