Short Barrel 6.5s

Is anyone shooting a 260 or 6.5 Creedmoor with a 16-18" barrel using 140 class bullets??

I'm looking for some real world velocities with these bullets from a short barrel.

In one of my older Speer manuals #10 it list the 6.5x55 Swede out of an 18" barrel and it gets with 120s between 2700/2800 fps and with 140s 2500/2600 fps.

Hoping someon out there has some real world numbers with either the 260 or CM.

I shoot a 20'' 6.5 Creedmore right at 2700 using the 140 ELD-M. My experience has been you lose about 20 fps per inch once you get under a 24" barrel.

Can you be more specific about your load? I just got a Tikka CTRx in 6.5 Creedmoor and I'm shooting 130 grain Prime ammo because it is well rated and is made with Norma brass I intend to reload. I'm getting right at 2700 with as measured by a Magnetospeed. I'd be pretty enthusiastic about 2700 with 140 ELD-M's. Thanks in advance!

Berger reloading manual says around 23 fps per inch.

Look for specialty pistol shooters. They run barrels that long regularly. Seems like there are quite a few 6.5 creedmores and a few 260's.

I have a 20" Model 7 in 6.5 Creedmoor. I have it in a short length of pull stock and loaded light 120 Gr Sierra for my son to shoot. I haven't shot it thru the chronograph, but the load is accurate. A good group with the load is around 1/2". I have shot some 142 ELD-X's and that load shoots consistently in the .3's. Again, I haven't shot that load thru the chronograph either. One day I need to shoot it thru the chronograph to find out the velocity's. I don't hotrod this rifle. If I need something with more velocity I have other rifles for that.

My 18" 6.5 Creedmoor (Criterion RemAge 1:8) got 2640fps with a Hornady 140gr HPBT over 42.5gr H4350; 123gr Amax over 40.7gr Varget was 2810fps.

Before the barrel was cut from 26" down to 18", the 140gr load above gave me 2823fps.

Just remember that those real short barrels used without a can, will cause hearing damage, concussion is terrible.

Ackley Man is correct, made the mistake of forgetting to put ears back on one day while shooting, won't do that again.
