Shooting stool

I’m so sick of shooting off the shitty chairs, benches and cinder block makeshift stools we have at our club. We are finally ready to break down and buy a stool we can travel to the club with for benchrest shooting. Is there a “chair / stool of choice”?
Also, what is the proper adjustable height range for a shooting stool?

I shoot with my 2 sons. I found that a roll around adjusted works fine. Can accommodate my height and theirs. Amazon has them for around $35-50. Had 2 of them for years. Nothing special needed for my needs.

I have tried & returned several brands and models that have the lowest settings offered online.
The biggest issue that you’ll find is they don’t adjust low enough, so your always leaning over to account for the lack of adjustment.
I finally settled on the one below, for the primary reason, that it adjusts down to less than 16”.
I honestly feel that I could use another 1/2” but can’t find one that offers a lower setting. I’m 5’11” just for reference..
IMO, the tractor seat style are really no more comfortable than the round top and I think the foam in front tends to collapse more, giving you the feeling that your kinda tipping forward. You can slid back to wherever you need to be on the round tops..
This is the website that I bought from as well.

I hate the ones that are too tall. My wife found a "Drummers" seat sturdy/adjustable to suit us both. Check out a few before you buy one. It is a nice addition to our LR BR game. mikeinct

The first thing that you need to do is to mock up your stool height so that you know what the one you are going to buy needs to cover, with some room to adjust either way. For instance the popular Roc-N-Soc comes in two height ranges. Many of the adds will not show this, but they do.

I'll try to post a pic of ours w/ some details. The seat is on a threaded stem. Very easy to adjust the height, and it stays in place . Nice & steady.

This is the one you want.... Gibraltar/Softy-Drum-Throne just do a search for it and buy it from your choice of vendors. Should be in the $150-$175 range. As good of money you'll ever spend. The mind can only function as well as the a$$ can endure. And you have to keep focused when shooting. ;) ;)

Buy it where you can. I have one that is still in perfect condition after 15 years or more of benchrest shooting. JME. WD

If you've got prostate trouble look out for the ones that have the pointy thing that stick up in the middle. I have a smooth round one and I sit on the very edge.

I also do not want the automatic adjustments pneumatic adjustments. I use one with the bolt and butterfly nut. I ajust according to the bench height.
