Shooting season over

Hands take a beating in our lifetime. I struggle loading with arthritis, I usually have my wife wipe off lube. Last week I had tendonitis in my left wrist and had a splint on it all week. But there are folks with more serious problems. Good luck with your surgery. Two hands at once will be a challenge. A long lifetime of work wears things out.
Yes we do put our hands through alot.
After 15 years playing bass guitar and 32 years driving 18 wheeler, 5 years of that was flatbed rolling straps and tarps..
Let's not mention the fights and punching of objects in my younger years lol

I know your pain. I have horrible arthritis in both hands and after a long reloading session my hands feel like I can’t even make a fist.

Both hands at the same time! Wow I’m surprised by that but I’m sure it’s because of a simpler method like you’re getting. But hey that should hopefully mean you will have somewhat of a use of your hand very soon after. I hope anyway?
I had both my hands done around 2008. The old method of a 2” incision and stitches. A 6 week recovery time per hand and they wouldn’t do them at the same time cause you basically didn’t use that hand at all for a month. Took about a year to feel totally better. Lost the numbness and tingling but still have the cramping in my hands!
My shooting season(recreation/hunting) is pretty much finished also. I had rotator cuff surgery on my gun shouldering side last Friday. Ruined my bow season for sure unless I get out the xbow? But I’m holding out hope for deer and bear gun season. Should be able to withstand one shot…lol

Wishing you well brother!

I've had at least 10 hand surgeries, carpal tunnel on the right hand and dupuytrens contracture on both hands. Dupuytrens was done on both hands one time, it as not a big deal. The carpal tunnel was a real quick fix, only missed one day of work, doing office, telephone and computer stuff. It was my second day so I had help learning and doing. A relative had carpal tunnel repair last Friday and didn't need help after Sunday. Ice and elevation is the secrete. You will recover quickly and if your groups don't tighten, blame the quack MD and invite him to join you in court.

Surgery is done and now for the recovery. Off work for 6 to 8 weeks. Goin to use my short term disability for some needed time off.
They said it would take a year to fully heal and for my strength to return.
Looking forward to the spring already.

Good luck with the recovery.
I had both of mine done at the same time 7 or 8 years ago. I recommend doing both. Only 1 recovery period.
You will need some ingenuity and assistance here and there for a while.
Everyday will be a bit better than the one before it.
Being rid of carpal tunnel is well worth it.

I had mine done the other year.
Right (dominant) hand first, left hand 2 weeks afterwards.
I work in a manufacturing plant making bulldozer blades & excavator buckets and such.
I was off work for a total of 4 months.

I gotta say though, it's nice being pain free in my hands.
I don't believe I still have the strength in them that I used to have.
I'm just happy I got moved to the machine shop that makes the parts for our hydraulic cylinders.

Rest up & get back out there in the spring!!

Oh, and don't even think about shooting pistols till well after your shooting your rifles!!

Man did that first shot with the 1911 hurt!!!

Never heard of having both hands done at the same time. Pretty hard to function.
I had carpal tunnel in both hands. My doc said he wouldn't operate on both at the same time - how was I going to wipe my a$$? good question. eventually had both done, my dominant hand first, and my other about 30 years later

Better to get healed up and with the price of EVERYTHING nows a good time to take a break.... I have been really really sick for the past month and a half and was thinking about the money I have saved sitting on the couch... Board to death though , new scoped rifle I have been working on sitting in the hallway calling my name.... seriously hot though here in central Texas so I haven't missed that part either....

Hey George, been dealing with the big D for thirty years, I tell people I have 3 1/2 fingers on my left hand. The skin has fused together on my pinkie but it has never really been a bother.

That is a lot more progressed than my left pinky. In the last 6 months I've had some other carving done on me , I'm not ready to have 4 hours of work on my finger. I can still cook, eat, shoot, load, two finger the computer and bite the top off a bottle of good beer, so I'm happy. I did have the ring finger on my left hand fixed. The incision was a zig-zag from the middle of the finger across the palm. It took 4 hours, the recovery was pretty fast, after the incision healed I had full use of my hand. Don't be afraid of the surgery, get a #1 Dr. and go for it. GOOD LUCK!!

well i am released to go back to work next monday. I am actually to go shooting tomorrow and prolly saturday. I had planned shooting last week but family matters had to take precedence. My mother had been in a rest home and then back to the hospital for esophagus stretch ... well unfortunately passed away 3 days after having the surgery.. its been a month from hell ...
