Shooting Product Vendor(s) going crazy...

I have been hearing no bullets, no powder, no primers, no brass, no loaded ammo. Same ole story everywhere.

Four nights ago I broke the crank on one of my 550 presses. The crank was over 33 years old, came off my 450 press. After spending an hour plus on hold with Dillon I was by the operator that they had the part and would ship the next day. I called today to order a spare crank just in case I broke another crank, I would not be SOL reloading. The operator answering at Dillon checked my previous order and said it is back ordered (along with my other three back orders) and they are not expecting replacement parts until the end of April, if then. So much for a lifetime warranty if you can not get replacement parts.

Nat,

Were all experiencing these issues. I have talked to people who are removing there parts and going to local machine shops to see if they can duplicate them. Most are being told "no" problem.

I guess I don't see it with the same sense of doom. They are still honoring their warranty, and you're still getting your parts. I know it's not TODAY, but a month, in the current climate, really shouldn't surprise anybody.

Besides, you got 33 years of service out of it, so I'd say you are probably ahead of the game at this point anyway.

You can't blame the companies that sell anything related to firearms, ammunition, or reloading for not being able to keep up. All of a sudden everyone out there suddenly developed a bad case of "Cranial Rectal Inversion" and are stocking up on things they don't even know what their for.

Heard on guy say at Cabelas "I better buy this progressive press before their outlawed". I asked him if he knew what he was getting and he responded "Not really but it's here and if I can't use it I could probably sell it later for a lot more money".

That's what we're all faced with. Someone commented recently that Dillon has gone through a years worth of product in just a couple of short months. All their suppliers have to now begin "next years" production.

Fortunately I have three presses. A Dillon 650, an RCBS Rock Chucker, and if all else fails, a Lee Hand Press. I might just have to go a little slower but I'll keep on loading 8)

Nate ,what do you mean by the crank broke.Could you be more specific.

Aaahhh, the much-feared "high capacity, automatic, press", capable of loading more than 10 hollow point rounds in one session.

I think California and New York have already outlawed them. :P

Well, they're really only semi-automatic, but . . .

Anyway, it's for the children, don'tcha know. ::)

Totally agree, Countless people have called trying to buy supplies and don't have a clue what they are buying.

Its mostly driven by politics. Everthing has become political these days. The mere threat of gun confiscation/registration along with ammunition limitation has us in a whirl. People are lined up outside the vendors doors for ammunition. Home Land Security has procured over 1.6 billion rounds of ammunition leaving even police departments low on ammunition for training. All we can do is get out and vote and hope for the best. Hopefully we will have someone worth voting for.

Not when politicians start blathering about them. Full auto, loading cop-killer bullets, easily concealable under a tarp in some crazed madman's basement, and worst of all... no background check on something capable of providing literally thousands of rounds of high powered sniper ammo to a deranged serial killer.

(I think I got all of their usual talking points..... :o ) ;)

Police depts. have no ammo, citizens have no ammo, distributors have no ammo. Seems like if someone is buying the ammo then distributors would be distributing to somebody, but they have nothing???

To more easily understand, think of an ordinary household toilet that's hooked up to a 1/4" water line. Flush it and it takes a long time to refill the tank. Flush it again before it's filled and it it might have enough to get the job done. Keep flushing it and the tank stays empty.

That's what's happening with the ammo/components market. It was only designed for a certain flow rate. People are continuing to "flush" the system and it's going to take a long time to catch up but ONLY when people stop cleaning the shelves every day.

Sorry for the toilet analogy but isn't this situation just a bunch of Crap? Seemed appropriate the time.

And your point is? With 180,000 people under the umbrella of "Homeland Security", not including the Coast Guard, Secret Service, etc, just how many rounds per does that amount to? DHS also operates the FLETC which trains all those armed federal agents from many more departments.

I know everyone would like to make this into a "conspiracy" but I'm not ready to line my baseball cap with tinfoil yet.

This whole mess has been exacerbated even more by the fools OUTSIDE of Government.

Like Pogo said in the old comic strip "We have met the enemy and He is Us".

I agree with several of the replies below, from my viewpoint I see the supply issue starting to relieve itself,I am seeing the shelves of 1 gunshop in the area to have a good supply of bullets and factory ammo but primers are still in a limited supply.
We shooters need to stand strong against the entire anti shooting / gun factions do not ever giveup the fight !!!!!

Not too impressed with Dillon. I own a couple 550b presses which seldom use, so nothing broken yet. Lost the .223rem stem pieces from my 600 primer pocket swage and they want $10ea to replace and another $10 to mail them; so $30 for two dinky parts from a $90 tool... Talking 2oz of postaqe and couple of minor machined parts. RCBS, Redding, even Lyman would've just sent out the parts no charge...

Only 2 presses, plus a Lee Handpress? Better get on the stick! Hand press gets very old and pinches my hand, I got one.

Dillon is a pita outfit. Recall one guy saying how wonderful they were, all he had to do was send in the broken part... Like they're getting hosed by shooters chiseling on their warranty so much that they want to see the broken stuff. not like they improve the parts either, or there wouldn't be so many ball bearing upgrade kits being sold.

There is a guy at castboolits.com, Alvarez Kelly, who might have some parts... Might look at Ebay or gunbroker.

Pretty crappy to tell you they'll replace the crank and not to tell you up-front that it is back-ordered for 4mos...

Seems like a guy was selling a 450 stripped frame on Ebay a while back, and some of the other parts also. Hope you can luck out...

This was on their web site. Looks like they are snowed under. [br]

Hogan-

You need to change the "Laundry" you use. It appears that they're leaving wood slivers in the pouch of your "Fruit of the Loom's".

Way too many people have had not just excellent service from Dillon but outstanding service. Can't blame them for the ignorance of all those who have created the panic.

If you have such a dislike for Dillon, why not sell all your Blue Stuff now. You could get top dollar for it.

(of course you'd have a hell of a time replacing it with anything else).

Like I said, find a place to get your shorts cleaned where they don't leave the slivers in the area that seems to be making you so irritable 8)

The best thing one can do is to try to take this hobby less serious. Have you even considered maybe just getting away from it for awhile? (Like maybe for the the next 4 years of Obama and 8 years of Hillary)

Perhaps radio-control airplanes, skateboarding, or fishing will get you out into the open fresh air without all the agravation and stressing out. It only takes a gallon of gas to fly an RC plane all day, or a $6.99 roll of dupont nylon fish line at Walmart to spend a week fishing at the lake. While you're at Walmart check out the skateboards; they're about the same price as a single box of Berger bullets....which we still can't find at any price.
