Shooting Pinned vs Free Recoil

Search for Bart's video on shooting form on here somewhere. It's pretty textbook stuff. We can modify things to what works best for us and our equipment but we could all do a lot worse than to pay attention to how he handles the rifle(very little) and still shoots fast and very well. Film yourself and compare. Details like keeping your head down and very little wasted motion. Ideally, we get all record shots down range in the same condition. I think finding what works for you and becoming very fluid in that style is critical. Speed will come with being fluid and smooth.

In my experience shooting pinned does require more bench discipline, especially when shooting off of wooden benches that move readily. I have shot both ways during Long Range Benchrest competition, and I remain undecided. Some of it depends on the rifle as well. I completely agree that if you are shooting free recoil it requires careful attention to the front and rear bag setup and making sure that the rifle is tracking well.

If I am shooting my .284 I better be pinned......
If I tried to shoot my .284 free recoil I’m afraid it might jump out of the front rest after it struck my shoulder.
