Shooting on your own land vs Public Range

I do as well! With that being said I have reconsidered this as a possible
problem if Lord forbid something should go wrong (Ricochet) and a
bullet ended up in a neighboring house. I know, but even with the best
back stop, crap can happen and an insurance claim could be a nightmare.
So now I shoot pistol at the home berm and leave the rifle stuff for the
Club range.
Thanks Bill

Preferably, I just open the window of my reloading room, sit down at the bench, and I can shoot from 0 to 1k yards. Then deer hunting season consists of opening the same window and taking a trophy when it walks by lol. A man can dream, but millions of acres of BLM .25 miles from my house will have to do...

I would avoid a public range assuming you are talking about one that is open to anyone without a range officer present.

There is no vetting of shooters like there is at most gun clubs, at least the two I belong to plus it is virtually impossible to enforce range safety rules at a public range without a potential disastrous confrontation.

For 25 years I wanted to be able to shoot at my place. Finally bought some land and built a new house 4.5 years ago where I can do just that. It saves a tremendous amount of time when developing a load to be able to walk out of the reloading room, sit down and shoot and make immediate changes to the load or run a ladder. It eliminates all of the travel which is a big time expense or it use to be.

The other reason I like shooting on my own place is that I’m not exposed to some of the craziness I’ve seen at public ranges, it’s hard to really concentrate shooting when guys are near or on each side of you mag dumping, or have no manners or respect for others they are sharing the range with not to mention anything about the safety.

I am not sure if I want that much lead leaching into the ground water where the well for my drinking water comes from. Here in the swamp wells are only 30 to 40 feet deep, if driven any further you get into massive amounts of sulfur in the water that has to be removed. Plus what retired army said.

I do have pretty much exactly that but only to a little over 500 from that window. Yes, I'm bragging a little bit but it's my little piece of Heaven on earth. Even has a concrete indoor shooting bench! Lol!
I usually keep 4 flags out all the time

I had a small acreage that I had a range on complete with multiple backstops and a concrete bench. I could shoot 25, 50 100 and 300 yards from the same shaded bench. 5 steps out of the back door of my shop and 10 steps from my reloading room.

That is the most difficult feature for me to live without. Hands down.

Already got a backstop. Several years ago I got an Email from the city of Loxahatchee FL ( Ive lived here since the early 80s) It was a copy of a state law that allowed home shooting ranges as long as the homeowner had over 1 acre and no bullets ever left the property. I asked the Mayor if the law was still in effect and he said it was. I told him that I was going to build a range as soon as I could get someone to deliver enough dirt to make a berm. The following Sat morning he was at my gate in a tractor with front bucket with dirt to build a berm. After he brought me 4 or 5 buckets he said "have fun". I built the range along the back fence where his property adjoins mine. It don't get no easier than that. He told me about the Arabs that own the property several thousand yards east of me that have a range that is very obvious from the air. He was called to a meeting with Palm Beach County, ATF, the Secret Service, The PBSO and the state. They were upset that this landowner had a shooting range that was on the approach to the PBIA and in the flight line of Air Force 1 when Trump was president. Mayor Bob explained to them that they were citizens that had 2nd amendment rights just like the rest of us.
