Shooters World Powders

I'm opening this thread for shooters that have tried the Shooters World Powders to reply with either their personal experience or witnessed another shooters experience. Positive or Negative would all be appreciated. I hope this will get some traffic, it would be nice to have more powders to choose from when other powders are hard to find.

Watching this with interest . I have some of their powders, have only tried the Tactical so far . Good results ,but have not tested it enough to add anything meaningful .

I bought some of the Precision Shooter and the consistency of the cut was horrible and did not meter very well, varied from flake to twice as long as a kernel of H4831. Did a little testing to see if it was temp stable and it was not, I would say it was similar to IMR 4064 in temp stability.

When you say "Little testing " ,how much is a little and what temp extremes did you encounter ? I am interested in this ,I shoot from below zero up to 90 degrees . Also , did you notice it on paper as well as with the chronograph ? Thanks for any insight.

Following, I have a few pounds of match rifle I have yet to try. Might give it a go in either of my 6.8 or service rifle.

I have had good luck with Precision Rifle...attached is first and third five shot group out of my new 223 Ackley. Have had good luck in my Dasher too. Can't speak to temp stability yet.

I got the 062 Vargets Equal ???
It’s as stated more different size Grans .
I tried it for my Palma loads . I was not getting the needed results.
I then tried it in my AR Match Rifle .
I was overwhelmed with how great it works .
With 80gr. Nosler Comp Bullets .
I was able to clean a 500 yard F/class Target .
For this use I will use it up .

I tested some Shooters World Precision in 308 and .223, using heavy for caliber bullets in both. I really liked the performance & accuracy I got. My lot is a little slower than Varget, but I'm getting better accuracy than Varget delivers in two rifles.

In my .223 bolt gun it's laser accurate with the 80s and 90s. I was just messing around and took it out to a 300 yard MR match and shot it suppressed (no cover) with a 1/4 MOA scope; ended up with a 593-twenty something X. Had I had a cover on the can, and a 1/8th MOA scope, I seriously think that gun would have won. No temp issues cooking rounds in a HOT barrel for 15-20 seconds.

(Shots 1/2 were my fault - I adjusted down a click not thinking I was shooting a 1/4 MOA scope. Those are just 80gr SMKs @ 2800 FPS. I wouldn't pay much attention to the SDs, IIRC it was a little windy that day).

I've also got a 180fb .308 bartlein that's built off a trued 700/McM A5. I wanted to build a load off Sierras that would be adequate for more 'messing around' type match shooting. I worked up a load with SWP and some 175 SMKs that was pretty darn good. Turned in a low 590s @ 500, but couldn't hang in the 3rd match with guys shooting 200-215gr bullets.

I do agree with the metering though; it's horrible. It will jam up my V2 auto trickler, as well as my RCBS uniflow, which is odd for an extruded powder.

I bought a few more pounds to play with. I'm going to try and see if I can get it to work with the 200-20X in some new barrels.

SO71 is a Lovex powder and I read on the site a few years back that it is the exact same powder as Accurate 3100, and Lovex made it for Accurate. Accurate tells that 3100 was made for them but that the factory had raised the price so much that they could no longer afford to import it. Accurate 3100 was pixie dust for a 25-06 with heavy bullets. It is about the same burn rate as h4831.

Don,

I’m so in the backwoods I’ve never heard of this powder?.... is it mail order only or do they have it in stock where you live ?

Here's a pic of some Shooters World Precision / Lovex SO62-02. Note the different size in powder kernels. It's the only extruded powder I've ever had real trouble with in an V2 autothrow. The long kernels will bind it up worse than IMR 4064, yet the small kerenels will leak out the side. Same behavior (but not as severe) in a manual RCBS uniflow.

Boy you guys are right that’s about the worse looking powder as far as different length and uneven ends I’ve ever seen! But if the results are there who cares right?......

After shooting with Mike on the 16th @ Bayou, I bought 8lbs of the SW Match. I mistakenly thought that is what Mike was shooting. I'll be trying it in a 20" AR with 77 & 80 grain SMK soon.

I have tried the SW Tactical with 62 grain MK318 Mod1(no lead) pills with good results(for mil surplus pulls) at 100 yds. Need to give them a try a 300 next.

I took some loaded rds and put them in a cooler that was 30 degrees and I left the rest sitting is a box in the sun on an 80 degree day which represents the temperature swing we can have on an arkansas/oklahoma day. My normal load is varget which I tested the same day with the same method and had a 5 fps increase between the cold and hot, the SW powder had a 35 fps increase. I used a magneto speed and at a 100yds the accuracy was as good as varget but the temp stability is not for me and the kernel inconsistencies make it a pain to reload.

This is good information we are getting here. My shooting buddy picked up a couple 1 pounders of Precision and Tactical , he said they shot accurately, a little slow on speed compared to some of the Hodgdon and IMR powders we use, but usable. I do not shoot Varget under ANY circumstances, but the powders I shoot probably from my testing test close to these from what I'm reading. In other words I like what you shooters are telling me and I will give them a go. It will be great to have an alternative. I use IMR4895 in my 6br PRS rifle, the cut on that powder is erratic.

Don,
Just curious why never under any circumstances do you not use Varget?.... I have found it very accurate in my Brx, brdx and Dasher and with 140 AB in my 7-08 is it the lot yo lot variations or the spotty availability?.... or other?....
