Is shooting in one of the competitions the only way to access the range that offers 600 & 1000 yard shooting? I live 16 miles from Ben Avery and use some of the other shooting areas of the facility. But have yet to learn how a local, general population, gets access to this area of BA. In the last two years, I've asked at the BA check in office and asked around at and during the BSWNs ,last February and have yet to get any definitive or clear answer. Thanks, lg :)

The high power range is by scheduled date only and it is a very busy place. Plenty of practice matches going on so no problem getting range time.

The Desert Sharpshooters Rifle Club is the User Group at the Ben Avery Shooting Facility that reserves the 1000 yard range for shooting. There is no membership to the club, just show up, pay, and shoot. We are just the organization that has the insurance required by Ben Avery and we provide the targets, pasters and other equipment. All of our practices are open to the public. Go to Desertsharpshooters.com for scheduled dates.

matt is one of the good guys in shooting.
I have shot off a bench at 600 at this range.
brought my own
must be willing to do pit duty, tho some guys have electronic targets.
show up for a practice session and ask
( and yes there is not practical reason for not having benches...different story)
