Shipping Primers/Powder

I have some large rifle magnum primers and some large rifle match and a couple bottles of powder, all primers in the 5-7 hundred count, can I ship them UPS with ORMD label to a private person

No sir. Can't ship unless you are a certified licensed hazmat shipper. At least that is my understanding
Safe shooting

NO IN GREAT BIG LETTERS.

I have shipped live ammunition that I reload for a friend in another state but I have never tried to ship powder or primers

Loaded ammo is ok but powder and primers are a big no-no. More dangerous than loaded ammunition just ask anybody that has had a tray of primers go off.

I am told that UPS will create a Hazmat label for you but you have to go to UPS service center and have an account. That and a black diamond label will do. Of course costs may be a bit high.

You can ship powder and primers if you get certified. Getting certified is a tedious process. Once you're certified you can keep your certification by taking an online class every year or two. My wife is certified to ship and handle everything from powder/primers up to TNT and blasting caps. She still won't let buy any though :( TNT that is. She's perfectly content with me buying primers and powder.... as long as I load ammo for her.

I had shipped ammo a few times for prairie dog shooting by packing it, labeling ORMD and dropping off at the Fedex hub. The last time (about 5 years ago) I took ammo to the hub I was told to take it home with me. They told me the hub cannot accept ammo but I could do my label online and schedule a pickup for the driver to stop by and take it. THEY said it was safer that way and that was the hazardous material handling policy. I never really understood how much safer it was for the stuff to rattle around in a hot local truck all day before being dropped off in the same hub to be loaded on a big truck for shipping.
But, just to echo the sentiment, you may ship powder & primers only if you are certified to ship hazmat.

You can still ship at the UPS hub with Ormd stickers ammo only

UPS may give you a label for the package but that is entirely different than the hazardous materials certification documents required to ship hazardous materials.

Do it right or you may see two dudes with dark glasses in a black Chevy Sub. Just my two cents. Tommy Mc
