Shipping charges creeping up

I've been ordering some things the last couple of weeks, and unfortunately as you can imagine the things that I need cannot be ordered from just one supplier, naturally!) Sinclair used to be a bargain, and perhaps still is somewhat, but their shipping price is now $9.25. Good deal if your ordering some heavy items, but a bummer if all you need is some patches, jags etc. The price of the large Flat Rate Box at the post office has now climbed to I think $12.95, another good deal not so good any more. To make a long story short I've tied up close to $70.00 in just shipping charges from a half dozen suppliers or so in the past week. Pretty much a bummer investing $70.00 just for the shipping.
It's only going to get worse since Big Oil is raping the Truckers for Diesel fuel these days. A little over a year ago a gallon of milk at my local Wally World was $2.12..............now it's $3.89. Our grocery bills have gone up probably 20-30%.
So bottom line question is what impact will this have on my sport of shooting? Well when I order anything from here on out I'll have to try to lump it all into one of two suppliers if I can, and those will be the suppliers with the flat rate shipping options.
If I were a vendor who reads this post I'd take it as a good indication of where many of their customers $$$$ are going to go if they don't offer a flat rate shipping policy like Sinclair or Top Gun Supply whose shipping by the way is still a flat $7.95 for USPS Priority Mail.

Danny, if it helps the pain a little.....
The USPS flat rate box is still $8.95.
The $12.95 box is new, 50% bigger in square inches,
but I can't see how, in usable space, when compared side by side.
I've always said I would never say "I remember when I could buy, fill in the blanks) for X amount",fill again)
It's getting tougher to hold to that.
Anyhoo, it ain't gonna get any better, so let's go shoot !!!!!

alf, I'm afraid you are right man. Our Country is going downhill a lot faster than most people realize. I know you and Danny are discussing shipping charges for the most part but guys, everything is costing more and more with goods and services declining all the time. We are living in a cut-throat society that we have been conditioned to move towards by our "great leadership" from years gone by. Someone made a statement here on the forum not long ago saying that we live in the greatest nation on earth, but let's change everything. Friends, if something don't change we are headed for the biggest wreck in history. But, don't read into this politics as we know them. Nope, I don't see NO HELP in sight. Just an opinion. Bill

A very bad man once said something to the affect of “give me 10 years and I will give you a Germany you will not recognize” He did it in 8. George Carlin said “one country one tube” and he does not see any tubes. Well it is there and we are circling it and we are going to need a little more than 10 years.

Stock up while you can on everything you can. Too bad the one thing I would like to stock up on is in short supply. Cash!!

I am going to go to work and get a little OT.

The sky is falling!
With posts like above, you guy's may just get your "radical change"
,u-know who)--Is that what you REALLY want?
"Big Oil"---of whose stocks are owned:
40% pension funds/ 30% mutual funds
Maybe You are getting some of this blood $$$?
Sinclair increase of $1? Well drive out and pick it up.

Well, the "Sky" isn't falling, at least not yet. However when the price of everything begins to take radical jumps, bullets for example up $6.00 per hundred in the last six months, or factory .223's that used to be $150 per thousand now at $400+++ and still climbing per 1000, it is time to consider maybe a storm is coming. Your right, Sinclair's shipping price going up $1 isn't much, but when you look at the big picture the cost of this "Hobby" has jumped dramatically in the last six months. So when do you cut back, or throw in the towel completely and take up a less expensive hobby? If I have to choose between a family vacation or family activity or shooting the shooting will lose every time.

A storm is coming, and we're all in for one rough ride.

Danny...

I've changed the way I buy, and what I buy.

A few years ago, if I was curious about how a bullet would shoot, I would just order a box...

Now, shipping make me gather up a long list for weeks on months...

... and the cost of bullets makes me not try bullets on a whim - I only buy what I know is going to work.

.

Last month, I ordered two very small items from Sinclair and the S&H was $4.25,still high for about 10 oz). Hey Catshooter: Get it out of the bag - How do you know which bullets will work????

I just read the 6mmBR website and buy what all you guys are shootin'...

:) :) :)

And then there are some retailers who hop on the bandwagon and add their little extra. I wanted to try a pound of AA2520, so I called Gander Mountain to see if they had any. They do for $25.00 a pound! I don't think so! I don't want to try it that bad.
This isn't an isolated incident for Gander Mountain either. I was in their store two weeks ago and they had a Sig Sauer item I was interested in. Their price was almost triple what it was directly from Sig! $59.95 verses their price of $149.95 When I questioned that they perhaps were in error they told me that's the price take it or leave it.....needless to say I laughed at them and left.
So beware any dealings with Gander Mountain. There are other unscrupulous retailers out there also.

Prices are going crazy, but not that crazy.
Last summer I bought 3000 Berger 105VLD's and 108 BT's for $19.10 per 100 if I'd only have known that six months later they would be $26.95 per 100 i'd have sprung for 10,000!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Smith, Just for the record I don't see any help from either one of what we got to choose from. Like I said "politics as usual ain't gonna cut it"

I just bough 3 jugs of powder for my heavygun from Powder Valley. It cost $11.95 to ship from Kansas to California FedEx ground.
I bought a single 8 pounder from a Arizona supplier and was charged $22.95 to ship 1/3 the weight.Funny thing was it was FedEx ground as well.
I don't know if it was FedEx or the supplier who gouged me.On USPS packages the price is always marked on the outside of the package so you can hide any hidden charges.

Lynn...

I used to just shop merchants by price of the "stuff", but now I also shop them by shipping charges - what's the point of saving $3 for bullets, and loose it in $12.95 in shipping and "handling".
