Shipping a bolt action & barrel to gun smith now-a days

I have a new action and barrel I need to get chambered and fitted and I’m just not sure how to go about it with all the BS going on? How can I get it shipped without making a dumb mistake!!

Thanks for your help!
Mark

With the current atmosphere I wouldn't choose to ship a gun by any other means than FFL to FFL. I want the least chance of problems ensuing because some self-motivated activist decides to take it upon themselves to interrupt a shipment. It happened to me once and so I know it's possible. Everything turned out fine because it was an FFL to FFL shipment. Well worth a few extra bucks to avoid a major headache.

you can ask your receiving FFL to send you a label, you would need to give the box directly to a driver or take it to the UPS terminal as their rules don't allow a firearms drop off at a UPS store

I recently used USPS to ship a stock blank and a barreled action to an FFL, it cost me $85.

My local dealer said he would handle the shipping for $30 plus the actual shipping cost. He gets a rate that is less than retail from all the carriers. I think I will let him handle any future shipments.

most often you can ship a gun to be worked on to a gunsmith because you are not transferring it to them , you are sending it in for work and the ownership remains with you the original buyer
UNLESS they have changed the shipping rules that should be the case
They did change the shipping rules. Can’t do it anymore through ups or fed ex as a private citizen.

Why does UPS need to know what you're shipping? It's in a blank box.....is there something in the insurance clause that would preclude any reimbursement for lost shipment?

I shipped one from myself to an FFL in a different state. Now that states laws, unbeknownst to me, has a 15 day hold period when it comes from an individual but the UPS store didn't ask a thing.

Ups rules now are no shipping from individuals of firearms or firearms related products, not including scopes, so if you did ship it and it was lost good luck getting anything from them.

Does not the ATF consider a receiver just like a handgun if being transferred? Does USPS consider a receiver as a rifle(long gun) for shipping purposes?

My understanding is that a receiver is neither a rifle nor handgun. On a form 4473 it is referred to as “other “.

I believe a receiver is just a receiver until the manufacturer screws a barrel on it designating it a rifle or pistol.

Can I buy in person an "other"(receiver) from a FFL dealer not in my state of residence? Or is an "other" like a handgun that needs to go thru a FFL in my state of residence?
