I don't know if it is the best but I pack the parts is a McMillan stock box and ship it UPS. If it is too long to fit in the box when it is finished, he will ship it back to me dis-assembled.I’m am wanting to mail a action and barrel to my gun smith. With everything changing so fast what is the current best way to do this?
Thanks Bill.
I'm with Butch here, most of my outgoing packages have been arriving ahead of schedule. For me, I use USPS.
He will tell you how he likes it best done. I have always found USPS is best, wrapped tight, bolt out of reciever, so nothing moves around and then into the smallest cardboard container I can fit it into, and that box wrapped super good on the outside, so it will not break open, by the gorillas handling it. Then add some extra insurance to the package and have a signature required on the shipment.Ask the gunsmith your shipping to.
It does get in line before it gets there. I always send him an email to inform him what I am sending and ask what his current wait time is. But I don't think Gunsmiths complete their Jobs in a strict "as they are written on the book" order anyway. I think a lot of smaller quicker jobs done in between chambering and threading jobs. But it doesn’t get in line for that long wait until it gets there so any delay allows others to be in front of you and a longer wait.
