Shimming pacatinny scope mounts

I know that this must have been a question on the board at some point, but can't find the exact question/answer anywhere.

I have an AR Flat top and a scope mounted with Burris XTR rings (1" highth). I am setting it up to shoot out to 600 yards. I first set it up, zeroed it and left it at that. I think I am working the retical towards the edge of elevation, so want to shim the scope for more elevation. Is this possible with this set up?

Other options would be to go to the Burris signature rings with the inserts, but would rather stick to the XTR's I already have if possible. Maybe someone knows of a product that could be used inside of the XTR ring instead of under the base?

Any direction would be appreciated.

Try a set of Burris Zee rings with the inserts to give your scope a 5 10 or 20 moa elevation change.

Trying to shim the inside of a scope ring will give you nothing but problems and a chance of ruining your scope's appearance.. Shim the base if needed...

So under the mounts seems like the best solution. My mounts are specifically designed to work with the rail slots. Is there a shim made for that application. Thanks.

The Zee ring is the most practical solution for this situation, or adding another rail that has maybe 10, 15 or 20 MOA built in between your 1" XTR's and your flat top.

Potential with this is it puts the scope up higher than you might like so you have to watch out for canting the rifle. I use this option when shooting a space gun for 600 yard-only events when I want also to shoot match sights for other relays. Easy on, easy off & no loss of zero.

+1 for sp clark,it is the easiest by far and no one will notice.I would engrave where they go as the way burris marks them is ridiculous.

Raising one mount on a flat base is going to strain the scope tube, you may get away with it, but it can't help the scope. The insert type rings would be a better solution.

You have to shim under the rail....you don't shim the ring that's why spclark gave the best suggestion since you don't want to change rings.
