Shilen barrels?

Looking for opinions on Shilen barrels. I don't see them mentioned hardly ever. How do they compare to CBI. I have had several CBI barrels and am more than happy with them but they won't custom throat to a dummy round and Shilen will. I plan on running Berger 140 LRBT's because I have a bunch of them so I am wanting a shorter throat than the typical .199 used on the 6.5 Creedmoor, otherwise I would just get the CBI.

I just had them throat a select match to my dummy rounds for a new F-TR .308 barrel and am very happy with how it is shooting. Will see how it does next month at the SWN in Phoenix.

Shilen chambered a select match for me in 7rsaum some years ago. It shot good to 1000 yards. I have 2 CBI barrels, they both are definitely shooters. I like my CBI's better for no more than personal preference, which doesn't help you much if any at all. However seeing how Shilen will throat it the way you want that is a step in the direction you possibly should take. Hopefully you'll get some information that will help you.

Mine isn't a heavy barrel, it's a #3 20" 6.5 8 twist in 6.5 Creed on a M7 action. That rifle will hang with my heavy barreled rifles that are Krieger's for the first 3 shots. I really don't know what it will do after 3 cause I only shoot 3 at a time.

A gunsmith cut, contoured and chambered a 6mm 1:10 18" shilen blank for me and I have been happy with it. Its an ar chambered in 6x45 and it shoots just about every bullet I have tried really well. For my use anyway which is varmint, predator and steel out to 600yds. I dont know about competition use. I plan on having the same guy set me up with 2 more shilens.

I have one on a custom AR. It’s a shilen select match. It’s awesome. I took it to a comp last week and had 750 yard hits on 50% IPSCs. Hit 3x15 inch ruler at 400 yards too. Excellent barrels.

Shillen is about the best button rifled barrel out there.
I have them on most of my Savage actions and a Bighorn. They shoot as well as some of the big name cut rifled barrels.
For rebarreling a Savage or a Bighorn with a Shillen Barrel check out Northland Shooter Supply they have great prices.

Bought one for Savage and it didn't shoot to my expectations . Tried several load combos and coal .
Have one on a 721 in 30-06 and is very accurate , this barrel was 308 .
I contacted them , we went over what I had done , including replacing the new scope with a proven scope .
They told me to send them the barreled action . After examing it tbeycouldnt find anything out of spec but replaced the barrel and shipped it on their dime .
Finally got a break in weather today and ran some loads through it of vaffying powders and bullets .
First group out the barrel went into .58" , two other loads .67" , so looks like I got something to work with here.
I give them a big thumbs up .

Been using Shilen for years. Have no complaints. Built many revolver barrels when I played the action pistol games. I built a 10/22 that shoots great and built a AR 15 that shoot amazing. I think @DirtySteve has shot it. shoots bug holes.
I would not hesitate to purchase from them as well as the customer service is wonderful and they do stand behind their product.
Good luck in your decision

Way more positive responses than I was expecting. Thank you everyone for the advice. I think I will definitely give them a try. I was originally going to go with a CBI in 6.5x47 but the brass is more way more expensive, fewer die options available, and everything 6.5x47 seems harder to find in stock than Creedmore. Also have the option of srp or lrp with the Creedmoor which I like in case I run out of certain primers. I also already have the Creedmoor dies.

One Eye Pete, that is where I will be purchasing it from. I have bought several CBI's from them already and they are always helpful and willing to answer any questions I have.
