Shilen Barrel Question

I could use some help. I have a SS Shilen barrel out of a gun room that I have been clearing out. The barrel is stamped on the end and am looking for some help with what the stamp is designating about the barrel.

Thanks

Gary

I believe xx is match grade. My select match barrels are marked sm.

PS: Rimfire target contour. Just a little(12 oz) heavier weight than a Remington Varmint contour but NOTABLY the breech end diameter is approx 0.10 inches smaller. 17 centerfire and 17 rimfire are the same bore diameter. Good barrel for a rifle with a smaller diameter tenon than a Rem. 700 or possibly a Remage system for a Rem. 700 or a Savage utilizing a barrel nut. The breech end diameter of your barrel blank is essentially the same diameter as a Savage large shank tenon(1.12").

I hope that I am not intruding but I have a Shilen built by them on a DGA action. On the bottom of the barrel it’s stamped with who chambered it along with SC that I was told meant Special Custom but they couldn’t tell me what grade it was. Any idea?

As I recall, when Shilen made custom rifles on their DGA actions, they only used select match, which is their top grade.

As far as I can remember, XX marking has always been Match grade. Previously, Shilen sold three grades of barrels. The Lone Star grade (most were truly "boat anchor" grade) were all CM and had no grade marking. Match grade (XX) was available in CM and SS and Select Match (SM) was only available in SS. They simply dropped the Lone Star grade a few years ago -- I would guess in response to shooters increasing awareness and desire for accurate rifles.

FYI the DGA actions are made by Stiller. Tommy Mc
You need to brush up on your Shilen action history. Current DGR and DGV actions are made by Stiller, but the DGA actions were Shilen made, and long before Jerry Stiller was in the action business.
