Shilen action

looking to build a 6 dasher or 6BRA, for starters i plan on shooting 1000yd competition, i sort of like the Bighorn and the Nucleus actions, but no luck finding them in stock, especially the Nucleus, seems like the Shilen may be readily available, any comments on this action, are they a tight action ect, any pros and cons on the Shilen action or is there anything available without a 3 month wait that may be better than the Shilen trying to stay around the the 1100 dollar mark.

I would call Shilen and ask if he would recommend it for that cartridge. I have a DGR and don't personally think it would work well. If you got the single shot that could change things.

Stiller builds the action for Shilen to Shilen spec. The bolt head on the shilen is savage style. Shilen and stiller bolts are not interchangeable.

Yeah id go stiller or the others i mentioned for a rem footprint. I think i heard shilen is not selling those actions anymore but i may be thinking of somebody else.

I have a Shilen DGR and have been more than satisfied with it. Best shooting rig I’ve ever had. I can’t speak to the Dasher or BR but mine feeds 22-250, 6.5x47 and .308 out of AICS type mags just fine.

i was over on the stiller website, the P1000 looks like what i might go for, will be building a 6 dasher or the 6 bra, if i go with this action, i have a choice of 2 action body diameters, one is the 1.350 and the 1.550 any preferences on the diameters, if i go with the 1.550 will i have problems finding a aftermarket stock.

ps i see they offer the trigger tech triggers, they don't show the new diamond series, any thoughts on the diamond trigger getting down around 4 oz to 6oz

Yeah I suppose I should add that my stiller/shilen is my finest shooting rig as well. 20 shots .25 MOA @ 100 yards. Mine is a 20 Vartarg and ejects most of the time.

The shilen actions are just a different take on the stiller, almost the exact same thing, but give you the pre-fit barrel option due to the savage threads and barrel nut. If you can only afford one action, it's a good one to choose. 22-250, 6.5 creedmoor, 284 win, 338 federal with just one action on the 308 bolt face

I have a 6BR built on the P1000 and quite pleased with both it’s function and performance. Mine is the smaller diameter and I had challenges with the stock. Ultimately the action was sent to McMillan and they inletted a Nesika Bay Varminter. They should have the dimensions now. It’s a joy to shoot and everyone who has shot it, shot it well. It turned out real nice. I hope your does too. Good luck with your build.
