Shilen .308 barrel

Threaded on my Savage 16 a new 26" Shilen Select Match Savage Varmint contour 1in13" Ratchet twist barrel chambered in .308 Winchester .340 neck. I had some Lapua cases loaded with IMR4064, CCI BR-2 primers and 155 gr. A-Max's that I had to seat deeper for this chamber. Didn't have enough daylight to perform a proper break in but I needed to shoot it! After sighting in I was greeted with this group! When cleaning the bore after firing 16 rounds there was no copper! My first Shilen and I am impressed!

Not a bit surprising from a Shilen barrel. Only problem is turn out time when ordering one you want from Shilen. If you can find the one you want from someone or a dealer, Shilens are well worth the buy. Unfortunately, I was recent building a 6.5 and called to place an order for one at Shilen but was given a turn around time of 14 - 16 weeks. Got one from Hart in 6 weeks. Thankfully, the Hart shoots as well as the Shilen on a friend's 6.5. BTW, nice shootin too!

We confirmed the order 08/27 and I received the barrel on 10/12. Lead time was quoted at 5-6 months. Shilen obviously beat that!
I have found the key to builds is to have several in the fire at one time so that when one is received you have something to play with and you don't think about the time for the next!
