Shilen .223 barrel amazes

NOTHING LIKE A VERY ACCURATE 222 YOU GOT TO LOVE IT

hey guys, speaking of .222 remington, i am looking to get a Shilen barrel direct from Shilen chambered in that caliber. i plan to use Lapua brass and don't want to turn necks. from what i find, loaded Lapua .222 Remington brass necks measure .2532". Shilen's offered largest neck dimension is .255". assuming i don't want to have to run a neck reamer into that .255" chamber, is .255" large enough to accommodate the Lapua brass without having to turn them?

thanks

Buddy this forum is full of people that do just that!!! However, Ggmac is generally not one of them.

As to the OP and his barrel....best thing I can tell you is DON'T SELL IT!!!
Thanks for the kind words , I means a lot. Usually we get too little information or specs and I should of know better .
Anyway ,thank you , Gary

bought a used Shilen 14 twist .223 barrel from this site a few months ago. barrel had about 350 rds through it. the previous owner said it was a shooter and he sure was right. Savage target action, XLR Industries Element chassis, Weaver T-36, SEB Joy Pod

all these results are 5 shots @ 100yds with 52 Berger Match bullets and either H4895 or LT-32.
That's some great shooting . Conditions down here are about best of entire year , cool mornings and warm afternoon. Hell season , as I call it is almost here , 90 degree days with the same in humidity.
Stay safe and keep us posted on that barrel and any mods .

hey ya'll, looking for opinions on a desired freebore for my Shilen Select Match .222 Remington build. it's going to be a 14 twist, for bughole making out to 200 yds with 52 gr Berger Match bullets.

my current Shilen .223 barrel has a .025" freebore and as shown above, kills it with 52gr Bergers. i seat them at the lands. seems like the .025" would work good in the .222 as well.

whatcha think?

Nobody?

I got a Shilen barrel with their standard 222 chamber throat, you saw the targets, it works fine.

This is from the Shilen site:

Throat to Dummies
Shilen can throat your barrel to your dummies ONLY if your dummy is NOT shorter than the throater on our reamer. If your dummy is shorter we can only go as short as what is on our reamer.

You should call Shilen and see what they recommend.

I’m very happy with the Shilen barrel I put on my son’s .223 shooting the 90 VLDs

5 shot groups at 100

My Shilen chamber is a standard 222 throat, I can get a 52g Berger or Barts to jam length and still have the bullet in the case neck > .22”

YOU'LL WILL BE GOOD TO GO BECAUSE STANARD NECK IS .255 GO FOR IT AND ENJOY !!!

I purchased a Shilen select match S7 contour- 26” long 1:12. Like yours shoots amazingly well. 52 Gr Hp on top of 25 grains of benchmark or. A 40 Gr vmax behind 27.4 Gr of H335 produces 1/4” to 3/8” groups at a hundred yards- repeatable all day long. The 40 vmax chrono says 3700 FPS and is outstanding on gophers........we don’t have prairie dogs where I am in Saskatchewan.
