Shiillen or PacNor savage prefits

I don't think that you can go wrong with either. I own barrels from both & they are good quality barrels.

Don't forget a CBI from Krieger. ;) I've had all three and they all shoot about the same. With that being said, this is the way mine stack up.

1. CBI
2. Shilen
3. Pac-Nor
;)

One thing to keep in mind when you go with a "pre fit", it may not have the chambering (throat) that you're after. You might end up with the throat being too long and you end up with not enough bullet in the neck after you shoot some rounds. In this case, one size doesn't fit all.
That's the reason I go with a chamber cut from a dummy round with the bullet I plan to shoot set at the shoulder neck junction. That way I can jam my bullets and chase the lands as the throat gets longer, and it will. Sometimes sooner than you think. ??? Never hurts to plan ahead. ;) JMHO,Mike.
Wouldn't hurt to talk with the barrel maker and see how much freebore they chamber with. ;)

Shillen will match the freebore to my dummy round. Allready been talking to them. Not sure about Pacnor. Havent had the oppurtunity to talk with them yet.

Leaning towards shillen.

Pacnor will chamber to your dummy round also. Shilen, PacNor, both are killer barrels. Whatever you decide, get it cut the way "you' want it. And my guess is any of the other top name barrel makers will do the same thing. It's just a matter of waiting till you get your hands on it. Have patience and hang in there.
And l'll bet if you tell them what bullet you plan to shoot, they will already know how much freebore to cut. That's their job. ;)

I got a Pre Fit Shilen and I love it. Will shoot 0.25" groups @100 and easy to clean. Very easy to tune a load and has multiple nodes for a given load that are easy to find. I was not aware they did anything to the Pre Fits? Knowing what I know now, next barrel I will have done based off my dummy round and the brass I use.

I have shot neather yet, but recently bought a Shillen pre fit in 243. I reamed it out to 6-284 and when I went to clean out the bore after chambering I found it to be the smothest barrel I have ever had. That don`t mean it will shoot, but it will sure be easy to clean. As soon as I can get it nitrated I`ll be giveing it a try.

Catfish, do you have a load & bullet in mind for that 6-284?

I have several Shilen barrels, but not pre-fit. Years ago, I ordered a pre-fit 26" no turn neck 6.5-284 stainless barrel from PacNor. It is terrible, will not shoot anything (with 142 gr. SMK), Sent it back, they said nothing wrong, so it sits in my gun cabinet with just 323 rounds on it.

I have two Criterions (CBI) and both are fantastic. One is a 26" varmint profile 6BR and the other is a 26" light varmint 30-06.

I have a 27" SS SuperMatch 1:8" twist 3-groove PacNor on my Savage 6BR.

It is the most accurate barrel I've ever owned, and it cleans up better than any barrel I've ever used. 900 rounds and it has never seen a brush, and it's still shooting high ones @ 100 with 80gr Bergers.

Maybe I got an exceptionally good barrel, but this thing has spoiled me and made me a big fan of the 3-groove configuration for 6mm chamberings.

I have several pre chambered barrels from Jim Briggs at Northland supply.I have a CBI,Shilens,Mcgowens<and a pac-nor.Out of them all,the mcgowens and shilens are the better ones for me.
